Halloween Ficlet

Michael, Ben, Lindsay, and Melanie were all sitting in a booth in the diner.  Lindsay and Melanie had moved back to Pittsburgh two years after moving to Toronto.  They were discussing their Halloween plans when Brian joined them.

“So, Brian, I hear there’s going to be a big Halloween party at Babylon,” Ben said.

“Anyone who’s anyone is going to be there,”  Brian nodded.

“We should all go,” Melanie chimed in.

“What about the kids?” Lindsay asked.

“Someone has to take them trick or treating,” Michael said with a nod.  Brian looked at the four people he’d known for so long.

“I’ll do it,” he offered.

Michael, Ben, Lindsay, and Melanie all looked at him in shock.  “What?”

“You’d give up a party at Babylon to take the kids trick or treating?” Michael asked.  Brian shrugged.

“It’s my club.  I go there every night.  I planned the damn party.  I know what’s going to be there, who’s going to be there.”  He shrugged again.  “You guys go, have a good time.  I’ll take the kids out and watch them after.”

“Are you sure?” Melanie asked, a bit skeptical.

“I don’t get to spend much time with them, thanks to you,” Brian said pointedly.

Lindsay nodded. “He’s right.  Besides, the kids are older now and can practically take care of themselves,” she said.  The four looked at each other, then nodded.

“Alright, sounds like a plan.” Ben smiled.

“You know that Gus is going to insist that you dress up for trick or treating,” Melanie said with a smirk.

“That’s alright, I’ve got my costume all figured out.”  Brian smirked.

“Oh?  And what are you going to be for Halloween, Brian?” Melanie asked with a smirk of her own.

“Straight,” Brian said.

Michael, Ben, Lindsay, and Melanie all laughed.
