Being Brian
Brian opened the door and
walked into the loft after work and was a little shocked at what he saw in front
of him. There was Gus, sitting on the floor by the coffee table looking through
some of his books. He noticed that Gus was wearing one of his many suit jackets.
He couldn’t help but chuckle as he made his way over to his son.
“Hey, sonny boy. What’s up?” Brian asked.
“I’m busy,” the boy said without looking up.
“Doing what?” Brian asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Fixing people’s fuck ups,” Gus said with a dramatic sigh. Brian tried hard not
to laugh. They’d have a talk later about the boy’s language but it was obvious
to Brian right now that his son was playing.
“Are there a lot to fix?”
“My staff is completely incompetent.” Gus looked up at his father with a serious
expression. Brian was impressed. He didn’t know many four year olds that knew
what incompetent meant.
“That can be a pain,” Brian agreed. He noticed Gus look in the direction of the
bedroom.
“WHERE IS THAT LAYOUT YOU PROMISED ME?!” he yelled. Brian snickered as Justin
came out of the bedroom with a sketchbook in his hands.
“Sorry, Mr. Kinney,” he said with a smile as he noticed Brian. He walked over to
give his lover a quick kiss, whispering to him, “He’s pretending to be you and
doing a damn good job of it.” He then walked over to Gus and handed him the
sketchbook.
“This layout is for shit!” Gus said as he practically threw the sketchbook down
on the desk. Justin looked at Brian with a raised eyebrow and a knowing smirk.
Brian looked at his son wondering if he was really that bad.
“I did a couple of them,” Justin pointed out and started to flip through the
sketchbook.
Gus stopped him on one page. “That one I can use.” He nodded, then went back to
the books. Brian knew that the boy wasn’t actually reading, but he was doing a
good job of pretending.
“Yes, sir,” Justin said and went back to the bedroom. Brian followed him.
“Why are you in here?” Brian asked.
“This is the ‘art department’,” Justin answered with a chuckle.
“He’s really getting into this, isn’t he?”
“He’s your son. Never do anything half assed.”
“Am I really like that?” Brian looked out the door to the living room.
“Yes, you are. But it’s okay. You have to be like that.” Justin came over and
kissed Brian lightly on the lips. Gus appeared in the doorway and looked at the
two of them.
“I’m not paying you to make out with your boyfriend,” Gus said with his hands on
his hips, the sleeves of the jacket covering his small hands.
“Okay, now you’re sounding like the Sap. I think that’s enough playing for you,”
Brian said as he picked his son up.
Gus giggled and tried to get away but to no avail. Brian removed the jacket and
laid it down on the bed, then hugged Gus.
“So I take it you had fun with Justin today?”
“Yeah, he’s a great art department.” Gus smirked and Justin laughed. “And he
knows how to put up with you.” Gus looked at his father and Justin laughed
again.
“You think that’s funny, huh?” Brian asked Gus and the boy nodded. Brian then
gently threw Gus onto the bed and started to tickle him.
“Help!” he cried between laughs and Justin jumped on the bed, starting to tickle
Brian. The older man tried to squirm away but Justin managed to get into a
position that Brian couldn’t get away from. Before long the three of them
collapsed onto the bed, laughing and panting.
Once Gus was in bed, Brian and Justin sat on the couch. Justin had his head
resting on Brian’s shoulder, the older man with an arm around Justin’s
shoulders. He kissed the soft blond hair and smiled.
“Today was fun,” Brian said after a few minutes of silence.
“Yeah, I love watching Gus,” Justin replied.
“We’re going to have to make sure he watches his mouth around the munchers.”
Brian smirked.
“And where do you think he got his vocabulary from?” Justin looked up at Brian
and they shared a laugh. They came together in a tender kiss before going to
bed.
