The Morning After the Fall
Morning at Westchester was quite different than mornings at
Camelot. Instead of the sound of bumper to bumper traffic heading towards
downtown Pittsburgh, Justin was awakened to the sound of birds singing in a
nearby grove of trees. The early fall had already begun its transformation from
green to shades of orange and yellow foliage. Justin rolled over in the
billowing white linens that adorned Tony's bed. As usual the strongest member of
the royal trio was up, and had already started his day leaving behind the scent
of lemon verbena, the dominant note in Tony's custom blend cologne. For a moment
Justin actually forgot about the event that had brought him there, but then the
nightmare returned, and he started to cry all over again.
"Are you awake, princess?" Tony's voice called from the other side of the door.
Justin sat up in bed, and wiped his face with a corner of the sheet. "Yeah, I'm
up!" he called back.
Tony opened the bedroom door, and stepped inside. He pretended not to notice
Justin's swollen, bloodshot eyes and red nose. "How do you feel?" Tony asked.
"I feel embarrassed. I feel humiliated. I feel like a fool," Justin said.
Tony sat down on the edge of the bed, and placed his arm around Justin's
shoulder. The broken young man leaned over, and hugged his prince.
"I'm sorry, Tony. I'm sorry I dragged you into this mess. It's all my fault. You
didn't deserve this..." Justin started to cry again. "I don't know what I was
thinking. Marriage is for two people, but I was selfish. I had to have you both,
now look what's happened."
"You can't take the full blame for this, princess. The original idea may have
been yours, but the final decision ultimately came down to me, and Brian. We
went into this threesome arrangement with our eyes wide open," Tony said.
"So what happens now?" Justin sniffed.
"The first thing we need to do is get you healthy again. I've made an
appointment for you to see my doctor this morning," Tony said.
"I know Brian was wrong to step outside of our commitment, but to go out and
fuck a total stranger without any protection....I've never known him to do that.
Brian Kinney always had a supply of condoms on hand," Justin said.
"I guess he was so used to just being with us, that he wasn't prepared. That in
itself tells me that there was at least some level of commitment there," Tony
reasoned.
"So why did he do it?" Justin whimpered.
"Because we're men, and we never know why we do the things that we do," Tony
said. "If anyone had suggested that I would be sitting in my own house, holding
the man that I love while he cried over another man, I would have told them that
they were crazy."
Justin looked up at Tony. "I love you. You do know that, don't you?" He wanted
to make sure.
"You'd better get dressed, princess. Your doctor's appointment is at eleven
o'clock." Tony dodged the question, and moved to get up from the bed.
"No. We're not going anywhere until we get this straightened out." Justin pulled
him back. "You said that you left Camelot because you didn't want me to have to
choose between you, and Brian. Well, I think you should know for the record that
hands down, my choice would have been you."

Dr. David Cameron's practice normally did not include ordering and administering
medications. However, in certain circumstances the licensed chiropractor had
been known to bend the rules for a scant number of clients. Dirty little secrets
that could potentially end the career of a professional athlete were par for the
course, and needed to be handled with the utmost discretion. It was such
confidentiality that he now extended to Brian. David tossed the empty syringes
into a sharps container for disposal. "All done. That should take care of it,"
he said.
"Thanks Dave." Brian zipped his trousers. "Now what?"
"Now we wait a week. I'll have you come back, and we'll send out another
specimen to make sure that you're free of the infection. Once you're cleared,
you can return to life as usual," David said.
"That's easy for you to say," Brian reminded him.
"I'm so sorry, Brian." David apologized yet again. "You have to believe me when
I say that I never meant for this to happen. I only wanted Lucky back."
"Did you really want Tony that badly, or is it that you just couldn't stand the
idea of him being with me?" Brian suspected.
"I've always wanted Tony," David confessed. "From the moment I saw him at the
craps table in Vegas, I've wanted him. The funny thing is, now that I look back,
he reminds me a lot of you. There were always so many men swarming around him,
just waiting for their turn. I guess you could say that I was kind of like
Justin. I was fresh on the scene, trying to find my way in a scary new world
that I knew nothing about, but wanted so much to be a part of."
"Are you telling me that Tony was your first?" Brian asked.
"As a matter of fact, he was," David confessed.
"Shit." Brian had to smile at the irony of it all.
"You see, I wasn't indoctrinated into the gay scene like you, and Justin, and
Michael were," David continued. "For years I tried to be straight. I wanted to
be straight. I thought that if I poured all of my energy into my career, and my
family, I would forget all of the unnatural feelings that I was feeling. For
awhile I was doing ok, that was until I went to a convention for chiropractic
medicine in Las Vegas. That's when I first met Tony. He had the deepest brown
eyes I'd ever seen. I forgot all about the convention, and spent the whole week
with him."
"Did your wife ever find out?" Brian asked.
"No, she never found out about Tony, but she did find my collection of gay
porn," David said.
"That'll do it," Brian said.
"Not to mention that I stopped initiating sex with her, and when I did, the only
thing I wanted was a blow-job," David added.
"What about Mikey? Did you ever really love him?" Brian asked.
"I thought I did. I told myself that I did, but in the back of my mind there was
always Tony," David said.
"Well I must say that this has been highly enlightening. Thanks for the
conversation, and the penicillin, doc. I guess I'll see you in a week." Brian
started to leave.
"Brian, I can tell you how to get Lucky back," David stopped him.
Brian paused at the door, and looked back over his shoulder. "Thanks for the
generous offer, Dave, but I already know how to get both of my men back," he
said.
So far Mysterious Marilyn was batting a hundred. The old transvestite's
prophecies had come to pass, just as she predicted. It would stand to reason
that the last thing that she said to Brian would come true as well. Marilyn told
him that Tony and Justin's return would depend on the small one that binds them.
Brian pulled out his cell phone and dialed Justin's number. "Hi, it's me," he
said.
There was a long silence on the other end of the line. Finally Justin spoke.
"Lose this number. I don't ever want to hear from you again, Brian." Justin
turned off his phone.
Brian returned his cell phone to his pocket. Hm, this might not be as easy as he
thought it was going to be.
