A Matter of Trust

Chapter 3

It had been two weeks since the big date and Justin had been getting antsy. He constantly walked around with his cell phone in his hand, waiting for it to ring, but so far he hadn’t heard a word from Brian. He kept replaying the night over and over again in his head, trying to find some reason why the call wasn’t coming, but as far as he could remember, it had been a perfect night. As he sat in his home office one Friday morning, thinking about Brian, Daphne walked in.

“Justin, you need to snap out of this. You’re behind in meeting the deadlines for the book already. We can’t keep putting Todd off. Eventually he’s going to cancel the deal,” Daphne sighed, frustrated with Justin’s recent behavior.

“I’m sorry, Daph. I just can’t seem to get Brian out of my mind. I thought we had a good time on our date and he hasn’t called me since. I tried calling information for his number, but they don’t have a Brian Kinney listed in the directory. What am I going to do?”

“Look Justin, I know you really liked this guy, and God knows he’s hot as hell, but you can’t let him ruin your life. It’s only been two weeks. Maybe something came up. Maybe he had a death in the family or something and hasn’t had time to call you. Or maybe he’s just not that interested, but either way you have to do what you need to do. Sitting around moping isn’t getting you anywhere,” she explained gently.

Justin sighed, knowing Daphne was right. He’d have to find a way to get Brian Kinney out of his mind before he went insane. “You’re right, fuck Brian Kinney. In fact, if he ever does bother to call me, I’m not even going to answer the phone.” Just as Justin finished his words, his cell phone rang, showing Brian’s name on the caller ID. “It’s him!” he exclaimed excitedly.

“You’re not going to answer it, right?” Daphne teased as headed towards the door, giving Justin some privacy.

“Hello?” Justin answered, trying to sound casual while his heart was beating out of his chest.

“Hey Justin, its Brian,” Brian said as he heard the blond’s greeting.

“Brian?” Justin asked as if he had forgotten who Brian was. “Oh Brian, right. How’s it going?”

“Alright, I know it’s been a couple of weeks now but something came up and I had to take a trip out of the country. My plane just landed and I’m on my way home now,” Brian explained, wondering why he was confessing to calling before he even got home.

“Oh, has it really been a couple of weeks?”

“Justin,” Brian replied dryly.

“Okay, so I’ve been waiting by the phone like some pathetic loser for two weeks wondering why you haven’t called,” Justin replied honestly.

“You’re not a pathetic loser and I wanted to call you sooner, but my cell phone doesn’t work internationally and since your number was stored into my phone I didn’t know how to get a hold of you. Why don’t you let me buy you dinner tonight and make it up to you?” Brian offered, wondering when he became one of those dick-less fags who grovel at men’s feet for forgiveness.

“That sounds nice, but you must be exhausted. I’ve experienced jet-lag once or twice myself and I know how hard it is,” Justin said, finding it difficult to say no to the opportunity of seeing Brian again.

“I’m a little tired but nothing a nap wouldn’t help. I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t want to see you.”

“Okay, how about this? You go home and lay down for awhile. I’ll come by around six and I’ll cook dinner for you. This way if you’re too tired we don’t have to leave your place,” Justin suggested, pushing aside the thrill of spending the night with Brian in his loft.

Brian thought about it for a moment. Was his loft ready enough to appear lived in? He’d have to move a few more of his things over before six o’clock. “That sounds good. I have to make a stop at the office first, so I’ll leave you a key under the mat. This way if I’m sleeping you can just come in and start cooking. As long as you don’t mind cooking, that is. We could always order in.”

“No, it’s okay. I love to cook and don’t get a chance to do it much,” Justin assured him. “Is there anything specific you’d like?”

“No, whatever you make is fine with me. I don’t usually eat carbs after 7:00, but I’ll make an exception just this once.”

“I promise to go easy on the carbs. Welcome home, Brian. I’ll see you tonight.”

“Later,” Brian replied before ending the call. He had a lot to do before he was going to be able to lie down, but he didn’t care.

While he was in Paris, all he could think about was Justin and how much he enjoyed their date. It was killing him that he couldn’t call, but he wasn’t able to get his phone number and since Cynthia was away he had no one to do his searching for him. The trip had been unexpected which didn’t give him time to plan for being away and without Cynthia, he was lost. As the car headed towards home, Brian’s mind mentally ran over the things he needed to pack to bring to the loft with him. The double life he was starting to lead was going to be a thorn in his side, but he had a feeling that the blond was worth it.

Once Justin hung up the phone, Daphne walked back in, a smile lighting up her face.

“So, what did he have to say?” she asked innocently.

“Oh please, Daph. I know you had your ear pressed up against the door so you already know I’m making him dinner tonight. Now get out of here so I can get to work. I was suddenly struck with inspiration.”

“I’ll bet,” she teased as she walked out the door.

Justin spent the rest of the day lost in his work so that by the time he was ready to call it a day, he was almost caught up to where he should’ve been. He called out for Daphne as he straightened up his desk.

“You bellowed?” she asked as she walked in.

“Yes, here are the drawings that Todd asked for. I also finished up the final draft for the first book of the series. I made all the corrections that they had asked for. I need you to over night these to New York first thing tomorrow. Also, call Todd and let him know that I should have the ideas for the second book outlined and on their way sometime next week. Oh, and call Tomas and tell him that I’m going to be placing an ad in the New York Times for someone to replace his assistant. She goes on maternity leave in another month and I don’t want him to be stuck without help.” Justin rattled off everything that was on his mind, oblivious to the strange look that Daphne was giving him. “Any questions?”

“Yeah, who are you and what have you done to the real Justin Taylor?”

“Huh?” he muttered in confusion.

“You’ve managed to get more work done in one day than you usually do in a whole week,” she explained with a chuckle.

“I guess Brian’s a really good source of inspiration. Now if he wants to do anything this weekend, I don’t have to worry about working,” Justin replied with a devilish smile.

“Ah, I knew there was a reason. A very good one, too I might add. Now you better get moving if you don’t want to be late. It’s already after 4:00 and you still need to stop at the market and buy some groceries. What are you going to make for dinner?’ she asked as they exited the room together.

“I think I’ll make some Szechwan Chicken. It’s one of my favorites and definitely low carb. I also want to pick up a bottle of wine. Wow, this is only our second date if you can call it that. Why am I so nervous?”

“Because he’s totally hot and drives you crazy?” Daphne laughed before turning more serious. “Or maybe it’s because you know that you’re not being honest with him and you’re afraid of getting caught?”

“Yeah, I’m sure it’s that totally hot thing,” Justin replied, ignoring the scowl on Daphne’s face. “Daph, if I ask you for a favor, do you promise to do it without asking questions?” he asked hesitantly.

“I don’t like the sound of that, but of course. What do you want me to do?”

“I need to find a small apartment for rent; something that a starving artist could afford. And before you say anything, I don’t have a choice. If things go well between us, I can’t keep coming up with excuses on why he can’t pick me up or come to my place. Could you please just look into that for me?”

“Fine,” Daphne sighed in exasperation. “But don’t come crying to me if this all blows up in your face.”

“Thanks Daph, you’re the best. Now I better go change into my Old Navy wear. Oh and I need to go talk to my mother about borrowing her car again. Maybe I should think about buying a used car, too.”

“Justin Taylor! This charade you’re playing is going to cost you a fortune!” Daphne exclaimed.

“Then it’s a good thing I have one, isn’t it. Don’t wait up.” Justin kissed his friend’s cheek before racing up the stairs to get ready for Brian.

When Justin reached the loft door, he set down the bags he was carrying and pulled the key out from under the mat. He walked inside quietly, looking around for any sign of Brian. When he didn’t see any, he put the bags into the kitchen and tiptoed towards the bedroom, spotting Brian sound asleep in the middle of the huge bed. Taking a moment to enjoy the view, Justin went back into the kitchen and started preparing the meal. It took about an hour in preparation, taking time out to find the dishes, glasses and silverware and set the table for two. He also managed to find an ice bucket and placed the bottle of wine inside to chill. Once everything was ready and dinner was simmering, he made his way back to the bedroom to wake up his date.

“Brian,” Justin called softly. “Dinner’s almost ready.”

“Mmmm,” Brian moaned in sleep.

The sound Brian made sent a wave of heat straight to Justin groin and he had to take a calming breath before continuing. “Brian, do you want to get up for dinner or would you rather sleep?”

“Justin?” Brian mumbled. “What time is it?”

“It’s a little after 7:00. Dinner is simmering and should be done in about twenty minutes if you want to jump in the shower first. Of course, if you’re too tired, I’ll understand. I can just put the food in the fridge for tomorrow and leave you alone.” Justin felt really bad about waking Brian up. It was obvious that he was exhausted.

“No…no…I’m alright,” Brian replied weakly. “I just need a few minutes to pull myself together. I’m sure that a shower will help.”

“Okay, I’ll go check on dinner and leave you alone to get ready. Take your time.”

Justin walked back out into the living room and headed towards the stereo that he’d seen when he was here last time. After going through the CD’s that were in the tower alongside the entertainment center, he selected a few discs and set them up to play. As he walked back into the kitchen, he heard the shower turn on and had to force himself not to think about Brian standing under the water, naked and soaping himself. He really didn’t want to spend the entire meal with a hard on trapped in his cargos.

Brian stood under the hot water, trying to wash away his fatigue. He’d only managed to fall asleep a few hours before Justin woke him up and his brain was fuzzy from exhaustion. He wasn’t sure if he’d be able to hold an intelligent conversation through dinner, but was determined to try. There was something about Justin that made him want to forget all about the promise he made to keep everyone at a distance and although that thought terrified him, it also excited him. He just hoped that if things did progress between him and the blond, that Justin would understand his reason for hiding who he really was.

Twenty minutes later, all showered and dressed in his favorite faded jeans and a t-shirt, Brian padded barefoot down the steps to find Justin placing dinner on the table.

“Feeling better?” Justin asked with a smile.

“Much. Smells good, what’s for dinner?” Brian asked as he sat down at the table.

“Szechwan Chicken. I hope you like Chinese food. I got this recipe years ago when I was just learning to cook. I took some classes for fun and found out that I enjoy it,” Justin explained as he passed the dish to Brian.

“I love Chinese food but I usually just order take out. I’m not much of a cook. I prefer to let others cook for me.” Brian spooned out some of the Szechwan and took a taste before looking up at Justin in approval. “This is really good. I guess those classes paid off.”

Justin gave Brian his brightest smile, thrilled with the praise. As they ate, the conversation flowed freely just as it had on their first date. Neither one of them felt awkward or shy. It was as if they’d known each other for years. Once they were done, Brian helped Justin clear the table and load the dishwasher before taking the half empty bottle of wine into the living room, where they continued to talk and get to know each other. Justin was the first one to notice the time.

“Wow Brian, it’s after midnight. I should get out of here so that you can get some sleep,” Justin said as he stood up, grabbed their glasses and the empty bottle and headed towards the kitchen.

“I can’t believe it’s so late. I’m not even that tired. What do you say we make a quick trip to Babylon and do a little dancing?” Brian asked, not wanting the evening to end.

“Are you sure? I’ll understand if you just want to go to bed,” Justin replied.

Brian’s first thought was about how much he wanted to go to bed, but Justin leaving wasn’t part of the scenario. Shaking off those thoughts, he smiled. “No, I’m okay. I think a trip to Babylon is just what I need. Are you up for it?”

Justin didn’t have to think twice. “Sure, let’s go.” He’d been dreading the end of the night and having to say good bye. Now he could hold on a little longer.

Brian changed into his clubbing clothes, leaving Justin breathless at the sight, and they headed out to Babylon. The place was packed when they arrived and they had to push their way through to make it to the bar. Brian ordered them each a drink while Justin looked out across the dance floor. He couldn’t wait to get out there and lose himself in the music. When he turned back to Brian, he noticed that everyone around them was eyeing Brian up, lust and longing in there eyes. It was very unnerving and he couldn’t help but wonder if he was out of his league. He had been to a lot of clubs in New York and managed to fuck a lot of guys, but he’d never been there with anyone who drew as much attention as Brian was. He couldn’t help the comment that slipped past his lips.

“Wow, you could have anyone you wanted in here.”

Brian seemed to detect a little twinge of jealousy in Justin’s voice and smiled inwardly. “Yeah, but I’m here with you.” He handed Justin a shot of beam before downing his own. “Let’s dance.”

Justin smiled at Brian before taking his shot and following Brian out on the dance floor. They quickly found their rhythm as everyone else in the room disappeared. No one else mattered as they started recreating the dance that they enjoyed together over a month ago. Justin could feel the hardness in Brian’s crotch as they moved together and could tell that Brian felt his, too. Between the bottle of wine from dinner and the shot of beam he just drank, not to mention his strong attraction to the man, Justin knew he was lost. He’d always been okay with tricking, but Brian was different than all the rest and Justin really wanted things to work out for them. He wanted to build on their friendship before jumping into bed, but he had a feeling that that idea was out the window.

“Let’s go back to the loft,” Brian whispered in Justin’s ear, just loud enough to be heard over the thumping music.

Justin didn’t have to think twice. Brian’s hot breath grazing his ear and neck was enough to send him into a spontaneous orgasm alone and Justin responded by grabbing Brian’s hand and leading him towards the door.

The ride back was done in a comfortable silence. The only sign of what lay ahead was Brian’s hand running sensually up and down Justin’s thigh, making it hard for the younger man to drive. When they reached the building, Brian jumped out of the car and pulled Justin inside and into the elevator, pushing the button for his floor before pushing Justin up against the wall and devouring his mouth. Hearing Justin moan his approval was encouraging as Brian continued to explore the warm mouth. His hand began to trail down his body, finally landing on the throbbing hard on that was waiting for him just as the elevator stopped on his floor. They scrambled out and Brian unlocked the door with shaky hands, struggling to calm his rapidly beating heart. What he knew was about to happen had been all that Brian had been able to think about since meeting the blond over a month ago and as strange as it was, Brian was a little nervous about it. Justin was different than most of his tricks and Brian didn’t want to screw anything up. He wanted to get to know Justin better and see if he was really as perfect as he seemed.

Justin was extremely anxious when they finally entered the loft. He wanted everything to go perfectly and suddenly became shy as he heard Brian close and lock the door behind them. It was ridiculous to feel the way he was feeling, but he couldn’t help the thoughts that were running through his mind. He was startled out of those thoughts when he heard Brian speak.

“Are you okay?”

“Huh? Oh, yeah. I’m fine,” Justin replied, trying to sound more convincing than he felt.

Brian noticed the hesitation in Justin and wondered if the man was having second thoughts. “We don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”

“Don’t want to?” Justin laughed nervously. “I want this more than anything. I guess I’m just a little nervous. I mean…it’s not like I’ve never tricked before, but for some reason this feels different.”

“I know what you mean,” Brian admitted.

“You do?” Justin replied in astonishment.

“Yeah, I do. Look Justin, I’ve pretty much given up on ever finding someone who could last past one night. Until we met I was happy with tricking and one night stands. Now I’m not so sure. But I’m also not sure if whatever it is between us is real or just a strong sexual attraction. We’ve had two dates now and I’m still interested. I just don’t want to do anything to ruin what’s been happening between us,” Brian sighed. “God, I’m starting to sound like a lesbian,” he laughed.

“I think you sound just fine,” Justin said before pulling Brian to him for another kiss.

That’s all it took for both of them to put aside their fears. The second their lips touched, all thoughts about the future and what lay ahead were placed on the back burner as the fire inside them ignited and their passion for one another took over. From there, everything happened so fast, and before Justin knew it he was lying naked beneath Brian, who was reaching over him to get a condom and lube. His heart skipped a beat in anticipation of having the beautiful man inside of him.

“Ready?” Brian asked as he rolled the condom on.

“God yes, fuck me Brian,” Justin moaned as he felt Brian’s fingers, slick with lube, enter him.

Brian quickly began the task of preparing Justin, trying to hold himself back from shooting like a teenager at the feel of Justin’s muscles pulling his fingers inside. Once he was sure that Justin was ready, he withdrew, placing himself at Justin’s entrance, and started pushing in slowly. Listening to the moans of pleasure coming from beneath him spurred Brian on and soon he found himself buried deep inside the perfect ass. He gave Justin a moment to adjust to his size before pulling almost all the way and sliding back in. The feelings there were coursing through him were almost more than he could take and he quickly found and set the perfect rhythm, bringing them closer and closer to orgasm. When Brian felt his balls tightening, signaling the beginning of the end, he reached between them and grabbed Justin’s cock, pulling it in time with his thrusts.

Justin was lost in a sea of passion, feeling himself drowning but not wanting to be saved. When he felt Brian reach for his cock, he knew it was all over. It only took moments before he slipped over the edge, falling into the most intense orgasm of his life, calling out Brian’s name as he fell.

Brian heard Justin call out to him seconds before he felt the hot cum shoot between them. That sound, along with the tightening around his cock sent Brian into oblivion as he filled the condom to capacity. As he tried to get his breathing back under control, Brian pulled out and rolled to the side, quickly disposing of the condom.

“Wow, that was…” Justin mumbled when he finally pulled himself back to reality.

“Yeah, it was,” Brian replied, fighting back the yawn that was threatening. Between the jet lag, the alcohol, and the orgasm, he was suddenly more tired than he ever felt before.

Justin could hear the exhaustion in Brian’s voice and stared feeling bad for keeping him up so late. “I’d better go. You can’t tell me that you’re not half asleep already.”

“I’m sorry, I guess I am a little tired now,” Brian admitted.

“Please Brian, don’t apologize. I shouldn’t have kept you up so late.”

“Oh, but it was worth it. You know, you could always just stay here tonight. This way we can go out to breakfast tomorrow morning,” Brian offered, fighting the sleep that was beginning to overtake him.

“That sounds nice, Brian. Now go to sleep,” Justin smiled at the invitation and reached over to place a soft kiss on Brian’s lips right before the man succumbed to sleep. He knew it would be a long time before he drifted off himself with all the thoughts that were going through his mind, but that was okay. Laying in the darkness next to Brian’s sleeping form was enough for him. He could sleep when he was dead.
