Now That You're Here
Chapter 40
Zander made it to his apartment seconds before Chris and the two of them went
inside together. It wasn’t surprising that Chris was quieter than usual, so Zan
gave him some time to try to put the therapy session out of his head. Instead,
he went into the kitchen and set the table, and then threw together a salad. He
poured two glasses of wine and then went to the living room to find Chris
staring out the window.
“Here, maybe this will help settle your nerves,” he offered as he handed the
glass to Chris.
“Can I ask you something? Wait, let me rephrase that. If I ask you something, do
you promise to tell me the truth?”
“Always, you know that,” Zander promised.
“Am I…do you see me differently now?” Chris asked hesitantly.
“Oh, come here, Babe,” Zander sighed as he took Chris in his arms. “Actually, I
do see you differently. You’re stronger than I ever even imagined. You were
raised under the worst of circumstances and instead of letting history repeat
itself, you’ve become the most loving and generous person I know. You could’ve
let those people ruin you, but instead you’ve become the wonderful man that I
love and want to spend the rest of my life with. And I know you don’t see it
that way yet, so I’m going to keep telling you how great you are until you start
believing me, okay?”
Chris held on tight as he let go of the tears that had been threatening to fall
since he had gotten into his car. “Please don’t leave me. I know what I did was
horrible and you have every right to never want to talk to me again, but I’m
begging you. Please don’t ever leave me.”
Hearing Chris so despondent and needy broke Zander’s heart, and his own tears
started to fall. “Shhhh, it’s okay. I promise you that everything is going to be
okay.”
Zander continued to hold Chris for another twenty minutes, until the older man
finally settled down. After sending Chris into the bathroom to splash cold water
on his face, Zander ducked into the bedroom and called Brian.
“Hey, what’s up? How did everything go?” Brian asked when he answered the phone.
“Um…good and bad, I guess. He opened up a lot and made some things a little
clearer to me, but he’s not doing so hot right now,” Zan explained.
“Is he alright? Do you need me to come over there?” Brian asked with obvious
alarm.
“He’ll be alright. I’m going to make him stay here with me tonight. I think a
little bit of cuddling would be good for both of us right now. I just wanted to
let you know so you guys can lock up the house and not worry about him. I’m also
going to call Stacy and ask her to open for me tomorrow so I don’t have to get
up early and rush out of the house.”
“I’ll call Stacy for you,” Brian offered. “You just go take care of my brother.”
“Don’t worry, I will. Thanks, Brian.”
By the time Zander got back to the living room, Chris had returned and was
sitting on the couch sipping his wine. “Is everything alright?”
“Oh yeah, I just called Brian and told him we were having a sleepover.”
“Zan, I don’t need a babysitter,” Chris replied dryly.
“Silly me, here I thought you’d want to share my bed, but if you’d rather go
home and sleep in that big bed all by yourself...” Zander teased.
“You know I don’t want that,” Chris said as he stood up and went to Zan. “I just
don’t want you doing this because you think you have to watch over me. I’m
upset, but I’ll be fine.”
“I know you will be. There’s no doubt in my mind. Call me crazy, but I kind of
like the thought of having you beside me tonight. It’s been awhile.”
“Well, in that case, you’ve got yourself an overnight guest. I’m not stupid
enough to turn down sharing your bed,” Chris smiled, finally starting to feel a
little better. “Now didn’t you mention something about dinner? I’m starving.”
“Come on, you. Let’s go have dinner,” Zander laughed as he took Chris’s hand and
dragged him to the kitchen. He sighed in relief, hoping that the worst of the
evening was behind them. He was looking forward to being able to fall asleep in
his lover’s arms again.
Justin walked into the kitchen to see what was taking Brian so long with their
drinks and was surprised to see him sitting at the table, lost in thought.
“Bri, are you alright?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah…sorry. Zan just called. Chris is spending the night over there,”
Brian explained as he got up to get the drinks he had promised to get.
“Well that’s good, right?”
“I don’t know. Zan wants him to stay there because he’s worried. Apparently the
therapy session was pretty hard on Chris, so Zan wants to keep an eye on him. He
said that they could both use a cuddle.”
“Damn, that sucks, although cuddling could be good for them. Are you okay?”
Justin asked with concern.
“I guess. I just hate that he’s going through this. I know what the aftereffects
of pouring your heart out in therapy are and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I
miss the old, confident Chris. He’s been so different since this whole thing
started,” Brian said. “And the worst part is that I know my parents are behind
it, but Chris won’t talk to me. What he’s dealing with goes beyond being thrown
out of the family at 28 for being gay. I’m almost afraid to hear what he’s
hiding from me, but I feel like I need to know.”
“But why? Why do you feel like you need to know? Whatever happened between Chris
and your parents is over now. Chris needs to learn to live with it, but maybe
it’s better if you don’t know the details.”
“It’s not over if it’s still hurting him.”
“Bri, Chris doesn’t need someone to know what he went through. He needs someone
who loves him and will stand by him regardless of what he went through. He has
that in you. Just be there for him if he needs to talk. You can’t change the
past, neither of you can. All you can do is work to make the present and future
better.”
“Yeah, I guess. I’d just really like to know what those assholes did to him,”
Brian muttered.
“Somehow I get the feeling you don’t,” Justin suggested solemnly. “Now, why
don’t we go out for dinner? I don’t feel like making anything, and we haven’t
been out on a date in ages.”
Brian shook off his bad mood and smiled at Justin. “That sounds like a great
idea. Let’s get changed first, though. If we’re going out on a date, we’re going
somewhere nicer than Taco Bell.”
“You’re just trying to butter me up because you know we have the house to
ourselves tonight and you’re trying to get into my pants,” Justin pointed out as
he started backing his way towards the stairs.
“You’re damn right I am,” Brian agreed with a smirk. “In your pants is my
favorite place to be.”
“How charming! Well, maybe I won’t be in the mood. In fact, maybe I’ll even make
you sleep in your own bed tonight,” Justin teased.
“Really?” Brian asked rhetorically as he grabbed Justin just before he reached
the stairs and pulled him close, placing his lips close to his ear. “I bet I can
get you in the mood. I bet if I reach my hand down the front of your pants right
now, you’re already half hard from wanting me. I bet if I kiss you deeply,
invade your mouth with my tongue and steal your breath, you’ll be in the mood. I
bet if I drop to my knees, take you in my mouth and then suck on your balls,
you’ll be begging me to share your bed.” Brian felt Justin’s whole body shudder
in response to his suggestions and smiled. “So what do you say? Wanna make that
bet?”
“Actually I do,” Justin’s voice was thick with lust. “It’ll be the first time in
my life that I enjoy losing a bet.”
Brian saw nothing but desire in Justin’s eyes and didn’t waste any time in
leading the blond upstairs. Dinner could wait. Getting Justin on his back,
bringing him to orgasm and then reaching his own could not.
*****
By the time Christmas Eve rolled around, Chris was feeling much better about
things. He still hated that Zander knew all of his little secrets, but he was
starting to believe his lover when he said that the past wasn’t his fault and
that it didn’t matter anymore. Chris had spent the afternoon cleaning the house
while Brian and Justin went to the bookstore to help Zan with all the last
minute shoppers. The store was closing at five, and then all three of them would
be there to celebrate the holiday. Zander had once again agreed to spend the
night, just like on the night before Thanksgiving, but Chris wasn’t sure what
the sleeping arrangements were going to be. They had shared a bed almost two
weeks earlier when Chris had slept at the apartment, but he didn’t want to just
assume that the younger man was ready to jump back into the bed that they’d
shared. Chris wasn’t about to push. Things between them had been steadily
getting better, and although they hadn’t made love since their coupling on the
couch on Thanksgiving, they both seemed happy with the progress they were
making. Chris was even starting to write again, finishing up the last ten pages
just that morning of a chapter that he’d been working on for the last six weeks.
He didn’t want to get his hopes up, but with the creative juices flowing like
they had been, there was a chance that he could finish the novel before his
January 15th deadline.
Once the house was clean, Chris jumped in the shower and then started working on
dinner. He had picked up a ham while he was shopping the day before and wanted
it to be almost finished when everyone got home. After dinner, they would watch
old movies, such as Miracle on 34th St. just like they did every year and
just enjoy the holiday atmosphere. For the last couple of years, they’d gone to
Baker’s house for a little Christmas Eve party he threw, but despite the
invitation he had received, Chris had opted not to go. The last thing he needed
to do was run into Ryan. As soon as the preparations for the ham were done and
Chris had it in the oven, his phone rang, pulling him from his thoughts. He
cringed when he saw Ryan’s number on display. It was as if thinking about
staying away from him had conjured him up. Chris saw that it was only four
o’clock. He would be alone for quite awhile longer, without the chance of being
overheard. He answered the call.
“What is it, Ryan?”
“I’m sorry, Chris. I know you asked me not to call, but I had to. I had to hear
your voice,” Ryan said, his voice breaking with emotion.
“Ry, why are you doing this? It’s been over for almost two months. When are you
going to move on?”
“I can’t. God, Chris, I love you so much that it hurts. I can’t stop thinking
about you.”
“You need to stop it. You have to stop thinking about me and what we had. It’s
over and there’s no way I’m going back. I’ve never made it a secret that I love
Zan. I almost lost him because of my stupidity and selfishness. I won’t make
that mistake again,” Chris insisted.
“But he doesn’t need to know…he wouldn’t have known the first time if you hadn’t
told him. I don’t mind sharing you with him as long as I have you,” Ryan cried.
“My God, will you listen to yourself? Look, Ryan, I like you. You’re a really
good guy and I’m sorry if I led you on in any way. I thought you understood that
we had no future together. You deserve to be with someone that will love you and
devote all their time to you, and I promise that you’ll find that person. It
just can’t be me.”
“Please, Chris, just meet me for lunch next week. Let’s talk about this face to
face,” Ryan pleaded.
“There’s nothing to talk about,” Chris sighed. “Now you need to stop calling me.
I’m not going to answer the phone anymore. I’m sorry, but I can’t keep doing
this with you. Good luck in the future, Ryan. I really hope you find what you’re
looking for.”
Chris ended the call and stared into space, feeling an enormous sense of guilt
wash over him. He had actually believed Ryan when he assured him at the
beginning that they were only having fun and that no one would get hurt. He
should’ve known that wasn’t true. They’d all been hurt by his indiscretion; not
only him and Zander, but Ryan too. He hated having to be so short with him. It
was obvious that Ryan was still suffering from the break-up, but he had to try
and get through to the man. He wouldn’t risk hurting Zander anymore by giving
Ryan what he might consider hope. He jumped when he heard someone walk up behind
him and turned around to come face to face with Justin.
“Hey, you scared me,” he said as he clutched his chest. “What are you doing
here? I figured you’d stay at the store until closing.”
“It really slowed down after three so Zan told me I could come home. I still
have to wrap some presents. Bouncing back and forth between here and the
apartment isn’t as easy as you’d think,” Justin laughed. “Um…so was that him on
the phone?”
“You heard that, huh? I swear I wasn’t doing anything wrong. He called me. I
only answered to tell him to stop calling. Really,” Chris insisted.
“Relax, I know. I heard enough to know that you were trying to get rid of him,”
Justin replied. “He doesn’t seem to want to take the hint.”
“No, he doesn’t. I feel really bad about it, too. He’s willing to be my piece on
the side as long as we can still be together. Why would anybody settle for being
a dirty little secret? You know, when we first…well, when this all started, he
made it sound like it was just two guys having fun and getting away from the
real world. There weren’t supposed to be feelings involved.”
“Yeah, but sometimes you can’t help who you fall in love with. Look at Brian and
me? We fought our attraction like you wouldn’t believe because we knew you guys
would freak out over two teenagers living in the same house and dating, but it
didn’t work.”
“We didn’t freak out.”
“No, Zander didn’t freak out. You freaked out. Relax Chris, I kind of get it.
That’s why Brian and I follow your rules. It’s just better that way.”
“Are you really following our rules?” Chris asked, looking deep into Justin’s
eyes.
“Yes, we’re really following your rules,” Justin laughed.
“So does that mean you haven’t…I mean, I remember when we talked after Dane and
you seemed kind of unsure about sex. You said that you didn’t think you were
ready.”
“No, I haven’t…um…” Justin could feel himself blush to his toes. “I’m ready
now…with Brian, but we haven’t…he’s been really patient with me and he wants to
make sure my first time is something special. When the time and place is
right…um…can we change the subject now?”
Chris couldn’t hold back his laughter. “Yeah, we can. I didn’t mean to make you
uncomfortable. You were just concerned the last time we talked and I wanted to
make sure you were doing okay.”
“The last time was different. I wasn’t with Brian. I’m good now. Your brother is
really amazing, you know. I really do love him.”
“I know you do, and I’m glad because he really loves you, too. I’m also glad you
guys have each other. I think you’re both really lucky. And yeah, I know he’s
amazing,” Chris replied as he pushed back his chair and stood up. “Now it’s
getting late and I still need to boil the potatoes and prepare the vegetables.
Do me a favor and don’t mention Ryan’s call to Zan. I promise to tell him about
it. I don’t want any secrets between us. I just want to wait until after
tomorrow. There’s no reason to upset him on Christmas.”
“I agree. He seems so much happier now. You both do. I don’t want to do anything
to change that.”
“I think things are finally starting to fall into place. I’m really hoping that
he’ll be moving back home soon. I still miss him so much.”
“Well, I for one will not miss traveling back and forth once he is back here.
Now tell me what you need done and I’ll help you with dinner. Brian and Zan
should be home soon.”
*****
The night went by fairly quickly. Dinner was good and the four of them enjoyed
snuggling up in front of the TV and watching movies. When bedtime rolled around,
Chris found himself getting anxious, wondering where his favorite blond was
going to sleep. Zander had obviously discussed the arrangements with Brian and
Justin at some point during the day because the younger boys had said goodnight
and gone upstairs without asking any questions. Chris sat nervously on the end
of the couch while he waited for Zan to make the first move.
“Are you alright?” Zander asked softly. “You seem kind of nervous all of a
sudden.”
“Kind of silly, huh? I was just wondering where you were planning on sleeping.
The last time you were here, you slept in Justin’s room,” Chris replied.
“I thought I’d sleep with you, if you don’t mind.”
Chris let out the breath he was holding and smiled brightly. “I don’t mind at
all. Let’s go to bed.”
Chris grabbed Zander’s hand and turned off the light before leading the younger
man down to their room. He was still very nervous, but the sheer joy of not
having to sleep alone was well worth a little nervousness. Chris stripped off
his shirt and pajama pants, making sure to leave on his boxer briefs. They had
always slept naked in the past, but under the circumstances, he felt it was best
to stay partially clothed. As he pulled back the cover to climb into bed, he
noticed Zan watching him closely. The blond stripped off his clothing, obviously
not having the same thoughts as Chris when it came to sleeping naked.
Chris stared at Zander’s body in awe. “Um…I don’t know if that’s a good idea. I
mean, underwear is only a flimsy piece of material, but it’s a pretty good
deterrent if you want me to behave myself.”
“Who says I want you to behave yourself?” Zander purred.
Chris was pretty sure his heart just fell into his stomach and then bounced back
up again. “You mean…”
“I want you, Chris.”
Chris wasted no time, stripping off his briefs and jumping on the bed, pulling
Zander down to join him. In seconds, Chris had the blond underneath him,
devouring his mouth in a heated kiss. His hands roamed all over Zander’s body,
enjoying the freedom to touch where he wanted, until one of his hands landed on
his ultimate goal, causing Zander to moan beneath him.
Zander pulled back, gasping for air as his whole body shook with desire. “That’s
it, Babe. Touch me.” It had been far too long since he and Chris had been
intimate and that one time had been too rushed and awkward as they fought for
space on the small couch. Unfortunately, Zander feared that this time wasn’t
going to last much longer. Not with him as hot and as hungry as he was. “Oh God,
that feels so good. Please, Chris, I need you.”
Chris’s head was swimming as adrenalin raced through his body. He really wanted
to take it slow and make love to Zander like he deserved, but there was no way
that he was going to be able to hold out for long. Not when he spent every night
alone in his bed thinking about moments like this. He pulled back and reached
over to the nightstand, grabbing the lube that they kept there. He worked
quickly to prepare Zander as best he could and then positioned himself at Zan’s
entrance. He looked down into Zan’s face, the face he wanted to spend the rest
of his life looking at, and felt tears building behind his eyes. “I love you so
much.”
“I love you, too,” Zan whispered back to him.
Chris leaned down and brought their mouths together as he thrust inside Zander’s
waiting body. He was finally right where he wanted to be. Sadly it didn’t take
long before both men were panting and right on the brink of orgasm. Chris
reached down with one hand and grabbed Zander’s leaking cock, giving it two
swift tugs before Zander exploded, his body grasping Chris from inside, bringing
him over the edge.
Chris collapsed on Zander, both of them gasping for air, and tried to find the
strength to move. He didn’t want to crush the other man, but he also wasn’t
ready to pull out of him just yet. Apparently Zander wasn’t ready to let go
either, because when Chris did try to move, Zan grabbed him and held on tight.
“Wait, don’t go yet,” Zander said softly.
“Are you sure? I’ve got to be crushing you.”
“I don’t care. I’ve missed having your weight on me,” Zan admitted.
Chris leaned down and kissed Zan deeply, willing to stay as long as Zan liked.
Neither one of them were sure how long they stayed like that before Chris
involuntarily slipped from Zander’s body. With a contented sigh, Chris finally
got up and went into the bathroom to clean up and get a warm washcloth for Zan.
He went over to the bed and lovingly wiped his lover clean and then disposed of
the cloth before climbing in bed. Zander was in his arms in seconds.
“I’m sorry. I really wish I could’ve held out longer,” Chris finally said once
they were settled.
Zander laughed. “Why are you apologizing? Technically, I came before you. My
willpower was no better than yours. We’re going to have to work on that.”
“Hey, as long as I don’t have to wait another month to be inside you again, we
won’t have any problems.”
“Well then, I guess we’d better not wait so long next time,” Zander replied as
he tried to suppress a yawn.
“That sounds good to me. Now give me a kiss so we can get some sleep. You wore
me out.”
“Right back at you, big guy.” Zander took Chris’s mouth deeply, pouring all the
love he had into the kiss. For the first time in two months, he felt truly
happy. Nothing else mattered at that moment except being there with Chris.
“Goodnight, Babe. I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
They both drifted off to sleep immediately, comfortable and content in each
other’s arms.
*****
Brian opened his eyes and glanced over at Justin’s sleeping form with a smile.
Zander had told them that he’d be sleeping downstairs with Chris, but the boys
decided to share a room anyway, wanting to wake up together on Christmas
morning. Wrapping his blond in his arms, Brian leaned over and kissed Justin’s
temple, pulling the other boy from sleep.
“Morning,” Justin murmured sleepily.
“Good morning. How did you sleep?” Brian replied as he squeezed Justin tighter.
“I always sleep better when you’re next to me. Have you been up long?”
“No, I just woke up a few minutes ago. I wonder if Chris and Zan are up yet.”
“Oh yeah, it’s Christmas, isn’t it?” Justin replied, a touch of sadness in his
voice.
“Yeah, how are you doing?”
“I’m okay, I guess. I miss them so much, you know? If I think too much about it,
I can almost imagine going downstairs and finding them there waiting for me. I
think they used to get more excited over me opening my presents than I did,”
Justin chuckled at the memory.
“I’m sorry. I wish there was some way I could make this easier for you,” Brian
told him.
“You do make it easier, just by loving me,” Justin replied softly. “As hard as
it all is sometimes, you, Chris and Zan all make it easier just by being so
great. I think my parents would be happy that I’m here with you guys.”
“I hope so.” Brian kissed Justin’s temple again and then burrowed into his neck.
“We should probably go downstairs before one of them comes up here and figures
out that we shared a bed.”
“Yeah, we probably should. And I have to pee really badly, too,” Justin sighed.
Of course Brian took that as a sign to tickle Justin, causing the blond to
squeal with laughter. Justin finally broke away and made it to the bathroom just
in time. Once they were both ready, they made their way downstairs and found
Chris and Zander curled up together on the couch sipping coffee.
“Morning, Merry Christmas,” Brian said as he walked further into the living
room. “Please tell me there’s more coffee.”
“Merry Christmas to you, too…and yes, there’s more coffee,” Zander laughed. “How
are you doing, Justin?”
“I’m okay. A little sad, but okay,” Justin replied honestly. “But I’m not going
to let that ruin the day. My parents wouldn’t want that.”
“No, they wouldn’t,” Zander agreed. “But if you find that you need to talk about
them or even just want to be alone, say something, alright? By early afternoon
this place will get a little nuts with people stopping by constantly. I want to
know if you start feeling overwhelmed.”
“Thanks, I will.”
Once Brian and Justin had their coffee, the four of them sat around the
Christmas tree and began exchanging presents. Most of the presents exchanged
were the typical gifts. New pajamas, a few sweaters, a couple pairs of jeans, a
variety of CD’s and DVD’s, an IPod Touch for each of the boys from Chris and
Zander, a new laptop for Chris from Brian, Justin, and Zander, A fancy new cell
phone for Zander given in hope that he could learn how to work it. Everyone was
very happy by the time almost all of the presents were opened. There were only
two left; a small box for Zander from Chris and an envelope for Chris from Zan.
“Okay, who’s going to go first?” Brian asked as he looked between the two men.
“I want Zan to open his first,” Chris said as he handed the small package over
hesitantly. “I hope you like it. If not…well, if not, then we can work something
out.”
Zander looked into Chris’s eyes, trying to read his expression and then looked
down at the lightweight box in his hand. It was about the size of a tie box, but
Chris wouldn’t have gotten him a tie. He shook the box gently, confused by the
shuffling sound coming from inside.
“You know, if you open it then you’ll know what’s inside,” Brian teased
anxiously. He knew Chris was giving Zander a big surprise but didn’t know what
it was. Chris had refused to tell him. He would’ve thought the wrapping would’ve
been bigger, but seeing as it was the last gift, the package in question had to
be the one.
“Thanks for the tip,” Zander laughed as he turned the box to the side and ripped
off the paper. He opened the lid and a handful of brochures fell into his lap.
Zan took a moment to look at each one and then looked up at Chris in awe.
“Italy in the spring. 9 days, 8 nights, we leave on April 15th and return on
April 25th. The boys are on spring break then so they can help out at the store.
We’ll be spending a few days each in Venice, Florence, and Rome. I think we
deserve a trip like this. I mean…if you want to go.” Chris was waiting for some
kind of reaction from Zander, hoping that he wasn’t being too presumptuous. Even
though they were “dating” again, he and Zander were still trying to work things
out in their relationship and were still living in separate places. He wasn’t
sure booking an extravagant trip without Zander’s knowledge or approval was the
right thing to do.
Zander continued to look at Chris, feeling all the love he had for the man come
rushing up to the surface. He wasn’t even sure how to respond. It had been a
dream of his to go to Italy ever since he was a little boy and his third grade
teacher told them about a trip she had taken there. The fact that Chris was
offering it to him, giving him the opportunity to live out one of his dreams
made Zan fall in love just a little bit more and he didn’t even know that was
possible. He could see the uncertainty in Chris’s face and knew he needed to do
something to ease his lover’s mind. He chose jumping up and throwing himself at
Chris, knocking them both over in the process.
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” Zander chanted as he placed soft kisses
all over Chris’s face. “You are the kindest, sweetest, most loving man I’ve ever
met. If I want to go…of course I want to go. I love you so much. Thank
you, thank you, thank you.”
Chris sighed in relief and then accepted Zander’s thanks with such joy he
thought he’d burst. Zander’s reaction was even better than Chris had hoped for.
He was so glad he’d pushed aside his doubts and gone with his gut. A trip of
this magnitude was just what they needed. “You’re very welcome and I love you,
too. More than you’ll ever know.”
Brian and Justin sat back and watched the men with smiles on their faces. It
really did seem like things were going to work out between them and neither one
of the boys could be happier. After quite a few more thank yous and kisses,
Brian cleared his throat to get their attention.
“Um…there’s one more gift. Could we get on with this? I’m starving.”
Zander pulled back and blushed shyly. He’d forgotten the boys were there. “Sorry
about that.” He reached for the envelope and handed it to Chris, who had just
managed to get himself back up after the tackle. “This is going to seem really
cheesy compared to Italy. In fact, I wish I had given you yours first.”
“Don’t worry about it, Babe. Your reaction to the trip, not to mention your
desire to go with me is the best present I could have gotten.” Chris opened the
envelope and pulled out a piece of paper, typed up officially and folded
business style. Before he had a chance to open it, Zan put out his hand to stop
him.
“It’s a copy of the original,” Zan explained.
Chris opened the letter and read what had been typed…twice. Then he looked up
and smiled at Zan, tears filling his eyes. “I was wrong. This is the best
present I could have gotten.” He reached out and grabbed Zander’s hand, pulling
him into a heated kiss.
“Jeez, will you two give it a rest already?” Brian teased. “So, what is it?”
Chris regretfully ended the kiss and then looked over at Brian and Justin with a
smile. “It’s a copy of the letter Zan wrote to his landlord saying that he
wouldn’t be renewing his lease next month. He’s coming home.”
Brian and Justin both let out shouts of joy and then threw themselves at the
older men for a group hug. It seemed that everyone got what they wanted for
Christmas that year. Their family was finally going to be together again. As the
rest of the day passed by in a flurry of activity, Chris and Zander continued to
look at each other every few moments with love in their eyes. It was their best
Christmas yet.
