Going the Distance
Chapter 7
Brian gave Justin a few hours to settle down before calling him to see how he
was feeling. He was still a little confused by what had brought on Justin’s
sudden attitude change, but he needed to make things right again. Ben had told
him he could use the car if he needed to, but he figured he’d wait to see if
Justin was even willing to see him. Justin answered on the third ring.
“Hello?”
“Hey, it’s me.”
“Brian,” Justin sighed. He’d been dreading the call.
“Sorry to disappoint you,” Brian replied dryly.
“No Brian, I didn’t mean for it to sound like that. I’ve been waiting for your
call. I just don’t know how to apologize for acting like such an ass earlier.”
“Apologize? Justin, you don’t have to…”
“Yes I do. Once Daphne got me alone and I told her what happened, she laid into
me. She told me I was being an asshole for no reason and to get over myself.”
Justin couldn’t help but smile at the memory of Daphne’s tirade.
“I knew I liked that girl. I‘ve got Ben’s car. Would you like to take a ride
somewhere so we can talk?” Brian suggested.
“Yeah, that sounds good.”
“Okay, I’ll be there soon,” Brian told him before hanging up the phone.
Twenty minutes later Brian was knocking on the door. Jennifer Taylor answered it
moments later.
“Brian, come on in. Justin’s waiting for you out back,” she said in a cool
manner.
“Thanks,” Brian replied, feeling the coldness coming off her. He followed her
through the house and found Justin sitting outside by the pool.
“Hey,” Brian said as he approached him.
“Hey, that was fast. Look, my parents are kind of giving me a hard time about
going out. Is it okay if we stay here and talk?” When Brian didn’t reply right
away, Justin assumed that Brian wasn’t okay with the idea. “Or we can just talk
another time.”
“No, it’s okay. We can talk here. I just really wanted to be alone with you,”
Brian explained, seeing Justin’s unease.
“See Brian, this is what I was upset about earlier. We’re too different. You’re
a college student, getting ready to start a new life while I’m stuck here with
my parents, having everyone take care of me. I can’t even come and go as I
please like other eighteen year olds. It’s not fair of me to try to hold you
back,” Justin said softly, trying to be strong when inside his heart was
breaking.
“Justin, you wouldn’t hold me back. Besides, I’m a big boy and I think I’m
intelligent enough to make my own decisions. You know about my home life and
what I lived through; knowing you, having you to turn to has been the highlight
of the last eighteen years. Hell, I moved across the country just so we could be
together. You can’t bail on me now over something as trivial as you being
blind,” Brian replied, taking Justin’s hand in his.
“But…”
Brian silenced him by kissing him softly, letting his lips linger for a few
moments. When he pulled back he saw a bight smile appear on Justin’s face.
“Are you sure?” Justin whispered.
“Without a doubt.”
Justin leaned forward and found Brian’s waiting lips, kissing him quickly before
pulling away. “Let’s go for that drive.”
“But what about your parents?”
“Fuck ‘em,” Justin laughed. He grabbed Brian’s hand and led him into the house.
“Mom, I’m going out for a little while. I won’t be gone too long,” he called.
“But Honey,” Jennifer whined as she appeared in the foyer.
“I’m going, Mother.” Justin’s tone left no room for argument.
Jennifer glared at Brian before replying, “Okay, just don’t be gone too long.”
Once they were settled in the car, Brian drove to an abandoned farm house a few
miles away that Ben had told him about. All he really wanted was to spend so
time alone with Justin. He stopped in the driveway and killed the engine,
walking around to the other side just as Justin was getting out of the car.
“Brian, where are we?” Justin asked curiously, hearing the silence of the
evening.
“It’s an old farm house that Ben told me about. He said it was a great place to
go to be alone. Hang on while I go get the blanket out of the trunk.”
“Remind me to thank Ben later,” Justin laughed nervously, thinking about finally
being alone with Brian.
Brian heard the nervousness in Justin’s voice and tried to reassure him. “Relax
Justin; I’m not going to attack you. I just wanted us to be alone.”
“I know; I trust you,” Justin replied as he allowed himself to be led away from
the car.
Brain laid the blanket out on the grassy lot and helped Justin to sit down
before plopping down along side of him. It was so peaceful and quiet there and
Brian felt content; something he hadn’t really felt before. His thoughts were
interrupted when he heard Justin’s timid voice.
“Brian, will you kiss me?” he asked tentatively, surprising himself at his
boldness.
Brian could see the apprehension in Justin’s face through the glow the moon cast
over them and knew it was what he wanted too. He leaned in gently and brought
their mouths together in a soft kiss. He tried to hold back some of the passion
he felt, but when he heard a small moan in response, he deepened the kiss,
easing Justin on to his back while seeking entry with his tongue; entry that he
was immediately given access to.
After a few moments, Brian pulled back slightly and watched Justin’s face for
signs of discomfort or fear as he lightly trailed his hand down Justin’s chest
and stomach before coming to rest on his waist. Hearing Justin’s sigh sent shock
waves through his body causing his cock to stir. “Is this okay or do you want me
to stop?”
“No, don’t stop. I like it when you touch me,” Justin replied shyly.
Brian took Justin’s mouth again as he slid his hand down further, gently grazing
his growing bulge through the fabric of his jeans.
Justin jumped at first contact but soon found himself arching up, needing more.
He’d never been with anyone before and the feelings that were coursing through
his body at Brian’s touch were causing his head to spin. Without giving any
thought to what he was doing he reached down and placed his hand on Brian’s
crotch, recoiling when he felt Brian pull back quickly.
“Did I do something wrong?” Justin asked quickly.
Brian couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped. “No Justin, you didn’t do
anything wrong. It’s just that I’ve been dreaming about touching you for so long
that I don’t want to rush things. If you touch me right now, I’ll end up
exploding like a twelve year old who just found the art of masturbation.”
“Oh,” Justin whispered.
“Just lay back and enjoy what I’m doing to you,” Brian urged as he began
unbuttoning Justin’s jeans. “And tell me if you want me to stop at any time,
okay?”
“Okay.” Justin barely had time to reply before feeling Brian’s hand touch him
for the first time.
Brian pulled Justin’s cock out of his jeans and began stroking him, enjoying the
sounds he was eliciting from the blond. He sat up quickly and grabbed Justin’s
jeans, asking him to lift up before gently pulling off the interfering article
of clothing. Once they were discarded, he covered Justin’s body with his own,
kissing him deeply once again. Then he began to kiss a path down Justin’s body,
taking time to stop and give attention to each nipple, before making his way
down to the leaking cock. Taking it back into his hands, Brian licked the hard
member up one side and down the other, and then took it deep into his mouth.
“Oh God, Brian…” Justin muttered incoherently, overwhelmed by the heat that was
racing through him.
Brian heard Justin’s mumblings and smiled slightly, wanting to give Justin as
much pleasure as he could offer. He continued his ministrations, alternating
between licking and sucking while rolling Justin’s sac around in his free hand.
Feeling Justin quivering underneath him and his moans growing in urgency, Brian
picked up the pace and was soon rewarded when he felt the impending orgasm hit,
shooting Justin’s load into his mouth which he eagerly drank. Once he was done
and Justin was licked clean, Brian crawled back up the almost lifeless body and
kissed Justin softly, allowing the blond to taste himself on his tongue.
“Are you okay?” Brian smirked to himself.
“I’m not sure. That was incredible, Brian,” Justin sighed. “I want…I don’t know
how…”
“It’s okay Justin. Tonight was all about you. I’m not going anywhere and I plan
on us spending a lot of time together in the future,” Brian assured him.
“Are you sure that you…”
“Yes I’m sure and you don’t even think about suggesting that we don’t see each
other. Got it?” Brian asked sternly, a hint of laughter in his voice.
“Yes Sir!” Justin teased.
For the next hour, Brian and Justin continued to lay side by side kissing,
talking and just being happy to be together. Brian finally broke the spell,
wanting to get Justin back before his parents sent out a search party. When he
pulled up in front of the Taylor house, Justin turned to him, wanting to say so
much.
“Brian, I really am sorry for everything. I just don’t want you to miss out on
anything or feel obligated to stay with me out of pity. When you came out here
you had no idea that I couldn’t see; I would have understood if it was too much
for you.”
“It’s not, Justin. I don’t do pity and I don’t feel obligated to anyone. I’m
here because I wanna be. If that changes, you will be there first to know, but
for now let’s just see what happens, okay? No more talk about pity.” Brian could
see a small smile begin to appear at the corners of Justin’s mouth.
“Okay, as long as you’re sure.”
“Justin…”
“Alright, alright, you’re sure; I get it.” Justin laughed. “I better get inside
before my mother comes out and drags me in. Thank you for tonight. It was the
best night of my life.”
“It’s only the beginning,” Brian assured him as he pulled him in and kissed him
tenderly. “Now get out of here before I steal you away again.”
“Promises, promises,” Justin teased as he got out of the car and made his way to
the house.
Brian watched him go, fighting the urge to help him inside. He knew how
independent Justin wanted to be when he was at home, so he just watched from the
car until Justin was safely inside then drove away, smiling to himself as he
went.
A few weeks went by with Brian and Justin spending as much time together as they
could. Brian’s classes started and he’d found a part time job working in a book
store a few miles away from the campus. With the money he had in his saving plus
the promise of a weekly income he was finally able to buy a cheap used car and
enjoyed the freedom of being able to get away without having to find
transportation.
Justin began to realize just how strong his feelings for Brian were and lived
for the times that they shared. His parents were still on his case every time he
went out, but he blew them off and did what he wanted. He was eighteen years old
and blind or not, he was old enough to make his own decisions.
One night, while he sat in his room waiting for Brian to pick him up, his mother
came in claiming that they needed to talk.
“If this is about Brian, save it. I’m not going to stop seeing him because
you’re uncomfortable with me having a life of my own.”
“This isn’t about Brian, Honey. We have to talk and it’s pretty important,”
Jennifer replied as she sat down on the bed beside her son.
Justin could here something in her voice that told him something was wrong and
began to panic. “What is it, Mom? Is everything alright?”
“Oh yes, everything is fine. I didn’t mean to worry you. I uh…got a call from
Dr. Stevens today,” she said softly, waiting for him to acknowledge what she was
saying.
“Mother…”
“Just hear me out, Justin. He thinks there might actually be a new procedure
that will help you. They’ve had wonderful success with it in Europe and it’s
just now being introduced in the States. He said you’d be a prime candidate for
it, even though it’s still experimental here.”
“We’ve been over this all before Mom. I’m done with surgery. I’m blind and I’ve
learned to accept it. I think it’s time you have, too,” Justin stated angrily.
“I have accepted it, Justin, but if there’s something that they could do to
change things, I don’t think you should rule it out without even considering
it.”
“I can’t do it again, Mom. I can’t hope for a miracle cure anymore. It’s too
hard when it fails and I’m just not going to put myself in that position again.”
Justin was so tired of having to explain his feelings over and over again. He
just wanted everyone to leave him alone.
Jennifer saw the determination in Justin’s face and sighed. She knew his
feelings on the subject, but Dr. Stevens really believed that this time things
might turn out differently. It was the reason she approached him to begin with.
Hating what she was about to do, she knew it was time to use the one person who
might make Justin see things in a different light. “What about Brian?”
“Brian?” Justin asked in surprise. “What does Brian have to do with this?”
“Come on Justin, I know how much you care about him. Don’t you think that things
would be better for both of you if you could see?” She felt terrible using his
feelings for Brian that way, but she really wanted him to give the procedure a
chance and if this was the only way to do it, then what choice did she have?
“Brian cares about me the way I am. He’s okay with my being blind,” Justin
assured her, his mind reeling at her words.
“I’m sure he is, but imagine how it would feel to be able to see him. To be able
to go to a movie with him, or watch the sunset…”
“Brian should be here any minute. I’m going to go wait outside for him,” Justin
replied quickly, jumping up and heading downstairs, away from his mother.
Jennifer watched him run away, hoping that she didn’t push too hard. She only
wanted what was best for her son and she was willing to do whatever it took to
make him see that.
Brian pulled up in front of the Taylor house and was surprised to see Justin
pacing the porch waiting for him. He climbed out of the car and approached him,
realizing that something was wrong. Justin hadn’t even heard him coming.
“Justin?”
Justin jumped at the sound of Brian’s voice. He’d been so lost in thought that
he hadn’t heard Brian arrive. “Let’s get out of here.”
Brian followed Justin to the car and helped him inside, noticing Jennifer
watching them from the front window. He had originally planned on going to grab
something to eat, but sensing Justin’s upset, he drove to the farm house so they
could be alone. He shut off the car and waited for Justin to speak, but when
nothing was said, Brian got out of the car and grabbed their blanket, figuring
that he’d make them as comfortable as he could. He had a feeling it was going to
be a long night. Once they were settled and it was apparent that Justin wasn’t
going to say anything, Brian began to start prodding.
“Okay, so are you going to tell me what’s wrong?”
“No,” Justin snapped.
“No?”
“No, it’s none of your fucking business,” Justin replied.
“I see. I guess the fact that we’re together means nothing. I’m just here to
keep you from getting bored.” Brian tried to hold back the hurt he was feeling
at Justin’s words.
Justin sighed, knowing that he wasn’t being fair to Brian. “I’m sorry; I didn’t
mean that. I’m just upset and taking it out on you.”
“Glad I could be of some service,” Brian teased, trying to lighten the mood.
“Now why don’t you tell me what has you so upset and maybe I can help?”
Justin took a deep breath before he began. “My mother came to talk to me right
before you got there.”
“Is she still giving you a hard time about seeing me?”
“No…actually, she used our relationship against me tonight.”
Brian was confused. “Okay, how about if you start at the beginning.”
“Dr. Stevens called her today and told her about a new procedure that has been
helping people in Europe. It’s now ready to be tested here in the states and he
thinks I’m a good candidate for it. He thinks it might bring my sight back,”
Justin explained quietly.
Brian held his breath, waiting for Justin to continue. The thought of him being
able to see again could be exciting, but he remembered their conversations where
Justin had said that he was tired of it all; tired of getting his hopes up only
to be let down again when nothing worked.
“I know she only wants what’s best for me, but I just can’t do it again. I can’t
put myself in the position of being let down again. Is that being selfish?”
“No Justin, it’s not being selfish. It’s your life that is the most affected by
all of this. You need to do what’s best for you and whatever it is, I’ll be here
for you no matter what,” Brian assured him. “How was it that she brought me into
all of this?”
“She said that things between us would be better if I could see.”
“What did you say to that?”
“I told her that you care about me the way I am and that you’re okay with me
being blind. Was I right?”
“Yes, you were.”
“But…”
“No buts…I do care about you the way you are. It’s your decision and your
decision alone,” Brian said softly.
“I know, but I want to know what you think. How do you feel about me refusing
the procedure?” Justin asked hesitantly. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to hear
Brian’s answer.
“Truthfully?” Brian saw Justin nod his head and continued. “I’m not sure. A part
of me understands why you are so against it; I’d hate to see you be disappointed
again.”
“And the other part?” Justin pushed.
“I’m sorry Justin, but then there’s the other part; the part that wants you to
see so badly. I want you to see the sunrise and set, I want you to see the
leaves change colors in the fall, I want you to see everything you’ve missed out
on in life; but most of all I want you to see how I feel about you. I want to
look into your eyes when we make love for the first time and know that you’re
looking back at me.” Brian sighed at his admission. “How’s that for being
selfish?”
“Wow,” Justin whispered, his voice choked with emotion.
“But it doesn’t matter. It’s still your decision and I’m going to be here either
way. Whatever you decide, I’m not going anywhere,” Brian insisted, needing
Justin to understand that he was being honest. As much as he wanted Justin to be
able to see, he would honor his wishes regardless.
Justin’s head was spinning over everything they had said and he needed to be
alone with his thoughts. “Brian, will you just take me home now? I’m sorry, but
I just need to think.”
“Yeah, let’s go,” Brian replied, standing up and pulling Justin to his feet.
Eventually that were back outside Justin’s house and Brian wanted to reassure
him again how much he cared. “I meant what I said, Justin. It’s all your
decision. I’m not going anywhere.”
“Thanks Brian, I think I needed to hear that. Call me tomorrow?”
“Of course.” Brian leaned in and kissed Justin deeply before watching him walk
away looking so dejected. He wished there was something he could do to make
everything all better, but he know that his hands were tied. Justin had to work
it out on his own, and all Brian could do was wait to see what the outcome was.
