Love

Chapter Four

Justin flopped down onto his bed, his arm over his forehead. What was he going to do? ‘I love Brian, but I’ve always had a huge crush on Spike,’ he thought to himself. He had left Brian because he didn’t feel like Brian loved him. Of course Brian showed that he cared about Justin in several ways, but he had never actually said that he loved him. But, Justin knew that Spike would have no problem letting Justin know his feelings. That was evident with the way he had treated that crazy Drusilla. He had treated her like she was a queen.

Biting his bottom lip, he debated his choices. Should he let Spike know that he had overheard the conversation? Or, should he never let on and let Spike romance him? He still did love Brian, but he could learn to love someone else. Decision made, he smiled. He couldn’t wait to see what Spike had planned. Let the fun begin!

The next afternoon, Brian’s desk phone rang. He had a big account coming up, and he had been busy working on it. “What?” he barked into the phone.

“Brian, it’s Tom.”

“You already have something?”

“Believe it or not, yes. There’s no record for the man. No social security, no credit cards, nothing. In short, he doesn’t exist.”

“Of course he does. I met him!”

“Maybe so, but he doesn’t exist on paper.”

“Thanks, Tom,” Brian said before hanging up. “Who the hell is this guy?” Brian mumbled.

AT DAPHNE’S AND JUSTIN’S

Spike was nervous. And he couldn’t believe it. He was over a hundred years old and was nervous about asking someone out. Daphne had gone to work and Spike was sitting on the couch when Justin walked into the living room.

“Good thing it’s a Saturday and I have no classes today. I’m still tired!” Justin said.

Spike chuckled. Deciding not to beat around the bush, he got straight to the point. “J, you doing anything tonight?”

“Just working from six until ten. Why?”

“Well, I was thinking we could go out. As in a… date. Now, I know we’ve been friends for years, but—“

“Spike, I’d love to. I’ll take a change of clothes to work and you can pick me up there. How’s that.”

“Perfect.”

Seeing that he had slept until three in the afternoon, Justin figured he’d better get ready for work. An hour later, Justin was dressed and had a duffel bag slung over his shoulder. “See ya later,” he told Spike as he bent over and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. After Justin walked out of the apartment, Spike smiled. This was going great. Maybe he could get Justin to love him.

AT THE DINER

Justin kept looking at his watch; he couldn’t help it. Time seemed to be going by so slowly. It was only eight. He was pouring another cup of coffee for Ted, when he glanced at his watch.

“Somewhere important to be, baby? You’ve looked at that watch three times since you’ve been at our table.”

“Oh, uh, sorry.”

“You coming to Babylon, tonight?” asked Ben.

Ben, Michael, Emmett, Ted and Brian were all grabbing a bite to eat before hitting the famous gay nightclub.

Justin shook his head. “No. Don’t you guys ever get tired of going there? I mean, night after night. It gets boring.”

All of them, except for Ben, looked at him as if he had grown a second head. Ben could understand what Justin was saying.

“Are you okay?” Ted asked.

“I’m fine. Anyway, I have plans tonight.”

“Oh, really? What?” asked Emmett.

Justin spared a glance at Brian, not knowing how the man was going to react. “I have a date.”

Brian’s fingers tightened around his coffee mug, but other than that he showed no other signs of being upset.

‘Figures,’ Justin thought as he refrained from rolling his eyes.

Two hours later, Justin clocked out and rushed into the men’s restroom with his duffel bag. He changed into a pair of tight black jeans and a blue t-shirt. Then, he dabbed on a small amount of cologne to try and cover the smell of the diner. When he exited the restroom, Spike was waiting for him. As always, Spike looked handsome.

Spike smiled at him and asked, “Ready?”

Justin couldn’t help but smile back and nod. He felt butterflies in his stomach. He was giddy. He had only felt this way about one other man and that had been Brian.
