1.
“Justin Taylor.”

Daphne listened to Justin call his own name and concentrated on holding the picture of Marguerite Lopez up. She couldn’t look at the picture Jennifer was holding or listen to her speech.

When she first saw the poster of Justin, she hadn’t been able to look away. She barely recognized the smiling boy she saw there. Daphne was reminded of how much Justin had changed, how much that night had changed him. There would never be justice for Justin, but this was something. She held her picture proudly, defiantly and dared anyone to say Justin’s life didn’t matter.

Justin rolled his eyes. “No one wants to see Zephyr saved from an impotency potion by having his true love lick it from his cock. Rage and JT could make it hot.”

Michael smiled and agreed. After five years, this was part of their routine. He suggested sex for Zephyr, and Justin insisted it worked better for Rage and JT. He shook his head and wondered when the boy he thought of as a rival became a man he happily called his friend.

“What?” Justin asked, tilting his head and looked at Michael suspiciously.

“Nothing, Boy Wonder. Now start drawing.”

Debbie knew Brian Kinney was trouble the moment she met him. He was too wild, too cynical, too angry, too handsome. He was too much for her baby boy.

She would later learn that he was mostly too unloved, and she would do her best to fix that, but by then she’d already given him her blessing.

She saw the way Michael opened up around Brian, and the way Brian looked out for him. So she held her tongue as much as she’d ever been able to. Because she knew more than anything what her Michael needed was a friend.

When Jennifer offered to share Justin with Debbie, she had no idea what she was getting into. Debbie didn’t do anything halfway; she adopted Jennifer right along with Justin.

The first Mother’s Day Justin stayed in New York and Molly was away at school, Debbie insisted Michael visit Ben’s family, and then she surprised Jennifer with a day at the spa.

When Jennifer remarried, not only was Debbie her Maid of Honor, she let her pick her own dress.

And when Justin and Brian finally married, they sat side by side, clutching each other’s hands and trying not to cry.
