Chapter Eight “Confidential?”
October 21, 1999
“Daphne!” Justin grabbed Daphne’s arm and brought her near a cubby in the
school’s hallway.
“What? Shit Justin, you scared me,” Daphne giggled.
“Did you tell September about us doing it?”
“Why?” Daphne cautiously asked.
“She was staring at me all first period.”
“So… you know she probably likes you. All the girls do.”
“I don’t want all the girls to like me.”
“Too bad.” Daphne tried to walk away but Justin grabbed her arm and pulled her
back to him.
Justin furrowed his brow. “You told her, didn’t you?”
“Why would you think that?”
“First. You’re a horrible liar. Second. I know you both were studying for
midterms last night. Third. She wasn’t only staring at me, she was drooling over
me and kept giving me funny looks.”
“Why do you care?” Daphne sighed. “Everyone at school thinks we’re dating
anyway. Don’t you think they probably guess that we have sex?”
Justin crossed his arms in front of his chest and glared. “I’m gay,” he
whispered.
“I know. That’s exactly why I told her.”
“What do you mean?” Justin hissed.
“She kept asking me about how far we’ve gone together. She wouldn’t stop talking
about it and I told her we hadn’t done anything but kiss…first. September
started saying that only a gay guy would date a girl, hang out with a girl as
long as we have and not tried anything. I tried to tell her that it was because
you cared about me and didn’t want to push me. But then…” Daphne ran her hands
over her face.
“What?”
“Then she said that’s all the more reason to think you’re gay. She asked me if I
knew for sure you weren’t gay because she worried that you’d leave me and then
everyone at school would make fun of me. They’d say I couldn’t satisfy you and
turned you gay. I’d rather people think I was a slut than think I turned you
gay, Justin.”
Justin let out a long breath, his anger dissipated. “So you told her we had
sex?”
“Yes. I told her we did it. I said I didn’t want to tell her at first because we
were afraid our parents would find out and not let us sleep over at each other’s
houses anymore. So she promised she wouldn’t say anything.”
“You believe her?”
“Yeah. I know she won’t say a word. I know a lot worse shit about her that could
get her in a lot of trouble,” Daphne said smugly.
Justin laughed. “Okay… just don’t be telling anyone else okay.”
“Justin what are you going to do when you do come out.”
Justin shrugged. “I don’t know if I will. I think I might wait till I’m out of
high school.”
“Because of what September said? I hope not… I mean, I’m sure I could deal with
whatever anyone had to say.”
“No, not because of that Daph. What’s the point of me coming out? I’m like the
only gay student here. It’s won’t be meeting any hot guy that will actually want
to fuck me.”
“I guess you’re right. But, I doubt you’re the only gay student here Justin.”
“Yeah, well if I come out it isn’t going to inspire anyone. It’ll probably be
the opposite and I don’t want to deal with that. I just want to be done with
high school. I think I’ll just go along with this ruse until the end of the
year, or until you want to get a real boyfriend.”
“Like that’ll happen,” Daphne laughed. “I kind of like our arrangement. No nasty
guys hit on me and all the girls are jealous of me. Now, don’t tell me you’re
going to give up on getting laid.”
“I got laid,” teased Justin.
“You know what I mean. Just because you’re going to wait to come out, doesn’t
mean you should stop your quest to get fucked.”
Justin blushed. “Shut up, Daphne.” The bell rang for second period. “Come on we
better book it or Holland is going to give us detention.”
“He won’t give me detention. I only have one tardy. This is your third so I bet
you’ll be spending a little time after school doing his bidding.”
“Fuck,” Justin groaned. He grabbed Daphne’s hand and they walked out of the
cubby and walked quickly down the empty hall to their class. They never saw
Chris Hobbes hiding around the corner of the alcove.
“Nice of you lovebirds to join us,” Mr. Holland sneered at Daphne and Justin
when they walked in.
“Shit,” Justin mumbled taking his seat beside Daphne.
Mr. Holland looked at a clipboard on his desk, made a few marks with his pencil
and glared at Justin. “That’s your third tardy, Mr. Taylor. That means…” he
stopped speaking and rolled his eyes as Chris Hobbes rushed inside the classroom
and took his seat behind Justin. “Hobbes, that’s your third tardy too. You and
Mr. Taylor will be spending an hour after school cleaning out the equipment
room. Ms. Chanders, that’s your second tardy. One more and you’ll spend an hour
cleaning the girl’s locker room.”
“Sorry, Mr. Holland,” Daphne said sweetly.
Justin groaned and put his head on his desk.
Chris faked upset; his eyes stared at Justin’s ass that poked out through the
back of chair.
