Angel Eyes
Chapter 7
Brian ran up the stairs as fast as he could. When he yanked the loft door back
Logan was the only one to greet him at the door. He frantically looked around
the loft but didn’t see Justin. Brian felt Logan latch gently onto his wrist and
tug him.
“Where is Justin? Take me to him.”
Logan tugged Brian across the loft and up to the bathroom. Brian swore if a dog
could look worried that’s exactly how Logan looked. Brian’s heart lurched when
he saw Justin on the floor amongst the shattered bits of mirror. He was staring
blankly at the floor. Brian carefully kicked away some of the shards and knelt
down by Justin.
“Justin, what’s wrong?” When Justin didn’t respond he grew even more concerned.
“Justin, please look at me, tell me what’s wrong.”
Justin slowly lifted his head and stared in the direction of Brian’s voice.
“It’s gone.”
Brian searched Justin’s eyes and he had his answer. An icy hand gripped his
stomach. Brian carefully picked Justin up out of the glass shards. He carried
him out to the kitchen and sat him on a stool. Logan shadowed his every move.
Brian pulled Justin into his arms and held him tight. He stroked Justin’s hair
to soothe him.
“I’m sorry about the mirror.”
“Fuck the mirror; it’s not important.”
When Brian could tear himself away from his partner he went back into the
bathroom to get his first aid kit. He gently dabbed antiseptic on Justin’s
knuckles. Justin hissed in pain at the sting. Brian placed light kisses along
Justin’s tear stained face.
“How the fuck did this happen?” Brian sighed. “Tell me what happened.”
“I started to lose my sight in art class. I did lose it for a few minutes.
Everything went black. I had to have a girl help me out of the room. My sight
came back for awhile. After I got to the loft I lost it again.” Justin snorted a
laugh, “Literally and figuratively.”
Brian held Justin close to him needing the physical contact. “How come you
didn’t tell Cynthia or better yet call me?”
“I didn’t want to worry you.”
“Well, I’m plenty fucking worried now.”
Justin rested his head against Brian’s shoulder. “I know, look there’s something
I have to tell you, ok. Please don’t get mad.”
Brian tensed in fear of what Justin had to say.
“I’ve had a few mini blackouts before. This wasn’t the first time.”
“What!” Brian willed himself to keep calm but he was finding that difficult.
“They didn’t last long and I didn’t want to worry you. The first couple of times
I wasn’t even sure what was going on, then I figured it could have been a side
effect of me hitting my head. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner.”
Brian squeezed him tight. “Just don’t keep something like that from me again,
ok. Let me worry about how much I fucking worry.” He heard a small laugh.
“Ok, I promise.”
“Can you see anything at all?”
Justin sadly shook his head. “Nothing.”
The utter sadness in Justin’s voice nearly brought him to his knees. He wished
he could take Justin’s pain away.
“I don’t want this, Brian.” He caressed Brian’s face. “I want to be able to see
my beautiful partner. What the fuck did I ever do to deserve this? It’s not fair
to give me this gift for a little while then take it back. God, do you know how
cruel that is? I worked so hard to get into PIFA, It was all for nothing. I’ll
have to drop out. I haven’t even been there a fucking month.”
Brian rubbed slow circles on Justin’s back to calm him. He picked Justin up in
his arms and carried him to the bedroom and laid him on the bed. He pulled off
Justin’s shoes while Justin buried his face in his pillow. Brian changed out of
his suit and into some sweats. He crawled into bed beside Justin and pulled the
little blonde into his arms. Justin snuggled up to Brian, craving the man’s
touch. Brian rubbed his back and petted his hair.
“Don’t give up hope yet, Justin, maybe if doesn’t have to be permanent. I’ll
find the best specialist in the field no matter how far away. Whatever it takes
to get your sight back then that’s what we’ll do.”
Brian placed a soft kiss on Justin’s temple. He held Justin in his arms till
Justin fell into an exhausted sleep. When he was sure Justin wouldn’t wake up he
slowly eased himself up out of bed. In his sleep Justin hugged Brian’s pillow to
his chest.
On his way out of the bedroom Brian petted Logan on the head. He went into the
bathroom and swept up all the shards. Then he went straight for his computer and
turned it on. The first thing he did was a search for the best hospital that
dealt with eye surgery and sight restoration. He pulled out a legal pad and
started to take notes.
Brian made several calls. He placed a call to the best hospital he had found to
see how soon Justin could be seen. He made a call to PIFA and explained the
situation. They were generous enough to hold Justin’s place till they knew more
about his current condition. Then he called Cynthia to let her know what
happened. He asked her to clear his calendar and arrange for at least a week
off. As an afterthought he placed a call to Justin’s favorite pizza place. A
little indulgence wouldn’t kill him. He’d do anything to make Justin feel
better. He wanted to see that happy sunny smile on Justin’s face. God, he really
had it bad. He crawled back in bed with Justin so he wouldn’t be alone when he
woke up.
Justin awoke not long after. He could feel Brian’s body practically enveloping
his. He snuggled deeper into Brian’s arms feeling safe and protected. Justin
rubbed Brian’s forearm.
“Hey,” Justin said quietly.
“Hey, feeling better?”
Justin sighed. “I was hoping when I woke up that it’d just be a horrible
nightmare. I’m awake and nothing’s changed.”
Brian kissed Justin’s parted lips. “Well, I ordered takeout so maybe that’ll
cheer you up a bit.”
“I doubt food is going to make me giddy with joy,” Justin said rather grumpily.
“Mmm, never doubt a Kinney man.”
Brian held Justin’s hand as they came out of the bedroom, their fingers joined
together. Justin settled himself on the floor by the coffee table while Brian
answered the door and accepted the delivery.
“Pizza! You ordered pizza! Of your own volition?”
Brian chuckled as he got some plates and a couple of beers. He set everything up
on the coffee table.
“I thought we could both use a little comfort food right about now.”
Brian sat down next to Justin with his thigh touching the blonde. He selected
the biggest piece and put it on a plate then handed it over to Justin. Justin
took a big bite of the thick gooey pizza and sighed happily.
“You are such a sweetheart, you know that?”
Brian shifted uncomfortably but smiled at the praise. “Just don’t tell anyone.”
“Your secret’s safe with me, big guy.”
“While the princess was getting his beauty rest I did some research and made
some calls.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, I called PIFA and explained the situation. For now they’ll hold your spot
until we know more. The worst that could happen is you’ll have to repeat the
semester.”
“That’s only if I can get my sight back.”
“About that, I did some research and found the best possible hospital that
specializes in eye surgery and sight restoration. I hope you don’t mind but I
already set it up.”
Justin looked up from feeding Logan a piece of his crust. “Do you think it’ll
work, that I could get my sight back permanently?”
“It’s worth a shot, isn’t it?”
“Yeah I guess.”
“I got you an appointment at St. Vincent’s hospital. It’s in New York so it’s
not really that far. I talked to a Dr. Evans and he seems optimistic but until
he meets with you he couldn’t say more. We leave in two days. I’ve already
arranged to take a week off from work.”
“Just how long was I asleep?” Justin smiled to take the sting out of his words.
“My, you were a busy boy. I’ll do anything to get my sight back although I’m not
giddy about having to go through surgery.”
“It’ll all be worth it if it works.”
“Yeah it will,” Justin agreed. He pulled Brian in for a tender kiss.
Justin helped Brian clean up what was left of their dinner. After they finished
the dishes Brian popped in a James Dean movie; it was a cure all. He played it
whenever he was upset or depressed. Usually Justin hated to watch movies when he
couldn’t see what was going on. This was different though. Brian recited the
lines word for word and the movie took on a whole different meaning for him.
Justin laid his head in Brian’s lap. His feet lay against Logan’s side. Justin
let his eyes flutter shut as he listened to Brian’s soft voice. Brian ran his
fingers through his long locks as he recited the dialogue.
Brian packed a suitcase for each of them while Justin lay on the bed lost in
thought. They decided that Logan wouldn’t be coming with them. So Brian made
arrangements for Logan to stay with Lindsay for a few days. Justin was quieter
than usual. He knew Justin had a lot on his mind so he just let him be, but he
was always close by, watching over Justin.
Justin was a bit grumpy about having to be woken up so early but Brian wanted to
get an early start. It was a long drive to New York. Brian packed up the Jeep
with their luggage and some of Logan’s stuff that he would need. Instead of
letting Justin take his arm to be led around he held his hand. It was a silent
gesture that things would get back to normal again.
Brian pulled up at Lindsay’s place at 8 am. He could see the light on in the
kitchen so he knew she was up.
“Do you want to come in with me?” Brian asked quietly.
“No, I’d rather not, I just…”
“I know.”
Justin turned around in his seat and ruffled the fur on Logan’s head. “Be good
for Lindsay and take care of Gus. No wild parties with the other neighborhood
dogs. No smoking pot either.”
Brian laughed out loud. “So that’s who got in my stash, huh.”
Justin smiled but had a guilty look on his face. “What can I say, he’s a regular
party animal.” Justin turned back to Logan. “I’ll miss you, be good and
hopefully I’ll see you when I get back.”
Brian opened the door to let Logan out. He grabbed up Logan’s supplies and
headed for the house. Logan dutifully followed him. Lindsay let them in. Her
hair was sleep tousled and her robe was hastily put on.
“Thanks again for doing this, Lindz.”
“Oh, it’s no problem. I’m sure Gus would love to have a dog around the house.”
Just then Gus raced into the kitchen and pounced on his father’s legs.
“Daddy!”
“Hey, Sonny Boy.” Brian lifted Gus into his arms. “Logan is going to be staying
with you for a few days. Do you think you can take good care of Justin’s dog
while we’re away?”
“Yeah, I’m a big boy.”
“Yeah, you are.”
“Where are you going?” Gus asked.
“To New York, Justin’s eyes aren’t feeling too good so we’re going to try to fix
him all up.” Brian turned to Lindsay. “I brought Logan’s dog food and his bed.
He shouldn’t be any trouble. He’s a really good dog. Lindz, I’d appreciate it if
you didn’t say anything to the gang. It’s what Justin wants.”
“I won’t say a word. How is he?”
Brian shrugged. “He’s doing the best he can. He’s the bravest person I know. If
it were me I’d be having a queen out every fifteen minutes.”
Gus tugged on Brian’s jacket. “Wanna see Justin.”
“You do, huh; well I don’t think he’d mind. He has a weakness for Kinney men.”
Brian walked out to the Jeep with Gus in his arms. When he opened the door to
the passenger side Justin jumped a bit startled.
“Sorry. Gus wanted to see you before we left.” He set Gus down on Justin’s lap.
Justin hugged the boy close to him.
“Hey Gus, I hope you don’t mind Logan having a sleepover with you. Sometimes he
tends to snore.” Justin fake whispered. Gus giggled at the thought of a snoring
dog.
“Are you coming back?” Gus was concerned that once Justin went away he’d never
see him again. Justin kissed the little boy’s cheek.
“Of course I’ll be back and while we’re in New York I’ll see if I can’t get your
daddy to find a toy shop.”
Gus gasped with delight and excitement.
Brian smirked. “I think that can be arranged. Now give Justin a kiss so we can
be on our way.”
Gus hugged Justin tight then kissed his cheek. Brian carried Gus back up to the
house and handed him over to Lindsay.
“Have a safe trip, Brian.”
“Thanks, we will.”
Once they had been on the road awhile Brian suggested that Justin take a nap. He
knew that Justin was still tired. He rubbed Justin’s thigh absently as the boy
relaxed. Justin quickly dropped off to sleep. He slept for most of the trip.
They made pretty good time. They had missed rush hour which Brian was thankful
for. When Justin awoke Brian put on the radio.
Brian had made reservations at the Hilton hotel even though he would be spending
most of his time in the hospital with Justin. When Justin was released he would
need some place comfortable to recuperate. They had time to check in and Brian
left his bag in the room.
“Do you want to get something to eat before we go to the hospital? We have time.
I’m surprised you haven’t complained about how hungry you are.”
Justin made a face. “I’m not hungry. I’m too nervous to eat.”
“Are you sure? Later on you might get stuck with nothing but hospital food.”
Justin nodded. “I’m sure.”
Brian pulled Justin in for a soft slow kiss. Before they left the room, Brian
remembered to grab Justin’s medical file that they had brought with them. It was
quite thick. Brian had a copy of everything that was in Justin’s medical history
so he could show the doctor. He also made sure he had Justin’s long list of
allergies.
Brian drove to the hospital. They walked up to the main desk and Brian got the
customary forms to fill out. Justin sat beside Brian while he filled them out.
Brian held Justin’s hand with his left while he filled out the forms with his
right. Since they were in New York no one bothered to even look at them.
When Justin’s name was finally called Brian was shown a different waiting room
he could wait in. He squeezed Justin’s hand once before he let the nurse lead
Justin away. An agonizing half hour later Justin returned. Brian jumped up and
once again claimed Justin’s hand.
“Well?” Brian asked anxiously.
Justin just shrugged. “The doctor will tell us everything in a few minutes. He
looked me over and ran a few non invasive tests, that’s about it.”
They waited another fifteen minutes before they were shown into Dr. Evan’s
office.
“So doc, don’t keep us in suspense. What’s the word?” Brian asked.
“The prognosis looks good for the operation. I’ve scheduled surgery for Justin
first thing in the morning.”
“What are the chances I’ll get my sight back permanently?” Justin asked quietly.
“I would say about 96% chance of this procedure working.”
“Why is it that he lost his vision again in the first place?”
Dr. Evans shuffled some papers. “Let’s see, you lost your sight two and a half
years ago due to blunt trauma to the head and then recently sustained another
blow to the head. I’d like to give you concrete answers but I’m afraid there
isn’t any. The brain and the eyes work together. I can tell you that regaining
your vision was only going to be temporary. A few weeks after your sight came
back you experienced blackouts, correct?”
“Yes.”
“What makes you so sure this procedure will work?” Brian didn’t want Justin to
get his hopes up and then have it all be taken away later. Justin had been
through enough.
“The procedure is relatively new; it didn’t exist two years ago. We’ve had more
success with it than other procedures. I believe this is the way to go for
Justin. Now, Justin, you’ve been pretty quiet. Do you have any questions?”
“How badly is this procedure going to hurt?”
Dr. Evans chuckled. “Not a big fan of hospitals, huh? You should feel a slight
amount of discomfort. It’s a fairly non invasive procedure. You’ll be under a
mild sedation. I’ve read over your allergy list. I’ll make every effort to make
sure things run smoothly.”
“Could I be allowed to stay with my partner?”
The doctor noticed how close the couple was. Mr. Kinney hadn’t let go of
Justin’s hand the entire time.
“I don’t see why not. We try to make the patients as comfortable as possible;
there are no restrictions on same sex couples here. Now a nurse will be along to
show you to your room. If you need an extra cot brought in just let her know.”
“That won’t be necessary,” Brian stated.
The doctor smiled at them both. “I’ll see you in the morning, Justin. Get plenty
of rest.”
“Ok, thanks.”
After the nurse left Justin sat down on the bed and sighed. Brian unpacked a few
things from Justin’s bag. He set Justin’s toiletry kit in the bathroom within
easy reach. They were in a single room so they didn’t have other patients to
deal with. Brian tossed aside the coarse hospital gown.
“You don’t have to wear that till tomorrow.”
He pulled out a pair of sweats and a soft t shirt for Justin to change into.
Brian tugged Justin’s shirt over his head and began to help him into the t
shirt.
“Brian, you’re hovering.”
The shirt slipped from Brian’s fingers. “Sorry I…”
Justin grabbed Brian’s hand. He rubbed his thumbs over the back of Brian’s hand.
“It’s ok; I know… it’s kinda sweet actually.”
Brian gave a disgusted snort. “Sweet.”
Justin kicked off his sneakers and finished dressing. “Yes, sweet. You’re a very
sweet, kind, generous and caring man. That’s why I love you so much. Brian, I’m
scared. I’m scared it’ll hurt way more than the doctors say. I’m terrified
something could go wrong, and I’m scared it won’t work.”
Brian pulled Justin into his arms and rocked him gently. “I won’t let anything
happen to you. You’ll be fine. I… I need you.”
Brian spotted an old transistor radio on the nightstand. It must have been
accidently left by the previous patient. Brian got an idea to take both their
minds off the impending surgery. Holding Justin’s hand he went over and switched
the radio on softly. Brian led Justin to the middle of the room.
“Dance with me.”
Justin smiled and moved into Brian’s arms. “You always know how to make
everything all better.”
They slow danced in the middle of the room to ridiculously romantic music. Brian
softly sang along with the radio. It brought happy tears to Justin’s eyes. Brian
gently wiped them away and kissed Justin. They were so much in love with each
other.
A nurse walked by the room and happened to glance through the window. She
stopped right in her tracks. In all her years working at the hospital this was
truly the most romantic sight she ever saw. She pressed a hand to her lips
hiding her smile. She moved on leaving the handsome couple to their dance.
Brian held Justin firmly in his arms and dipped him. Justin’s smile was so
bright it lit up the room. At that moment he knew he needed to tell Justin. He
never pictured that it would be in a hospital. Brian took a shuddery breath and
leaned in close to Justin’s ear.
“Justin, I… I… I love you.”
Justin gave a little gasp when he finally heard Brian say the words. “Brian, I
love you too. Promise me you’ll say it again when I can see you.” Justin reached
up and caressed Brian’s face. “I want to see you when you say it to me.”
“I think I can manage that,” Brian said with a small smile.
Justin went to lie down on the bed; he scooted over making room for Brian. Brian
kicked off his shoes and joined his partner on the bed. Justin rested his head
on Brian’s shoulder. Brian had his hand on Justin’s thigh, rubbing softly. His
hand shifted after a few moments rubbing the inside of Justin’s thigh. Justin’s
breathing started coming out in faster pants. Brian fondled Justin’s balls
through his sweats. He could already feel Justin begin to harden. Justin
squirmed a little under his touch.
“Brian, what are you doing?”
“Shhh, I’m the naughty night nurse. I’m going to check your vitals.”
Justin tried to stifle his giggles. He reached out and gripped Brian’s wrist
hard.
“Brian, we’re in a hospital for crying out loud! Geez, what if a nurse walked in
and she saw you with your hand down my pants?”
“Mmm, then we’d probably be the subject of some really good gossip.”
Brian caressed Justin’s tummy with the tips of his fingers. Slowly he inched his
hand under the band of Justin’s sweats. He gripped Justin’s hardening length and
began to slowly stroke. Justin arched his hips against Brian’s hand. Justin’s
erection was tenting his sweats. There was a wet patch on the front the size of
a quarter.
“Brian,” Justin moaned softly.
Brian removed his hand from Justin’s sweats.
“Why’d you stop?” Justin asked somewhat exasperated.
“I thought that’s what you wanted,” Brian said with an innocent smile.
Justin hissed in frustration. “Finish what you started or you’re a dead man.”
“Ohh, I love it when you get aggressive, but I thought you didn’t want to get
caught?”
“That was before my dick got painfully hard.”
Brian tugged down Justin’s sweat pants freeing the perfect steel length. He
continued his slow teasing strokes. Brian could tell Justin was really turned
on. It was the excitement of doing something new. Brian let his thumb drag
slowly around the head of Justin’s dick. He leaned in capturing Justin’s lips in
a kiss to steal away the moans Justin let escape.
Justin ground his hips against Brian’s hand, trying to seek out more friction.
Brian captured the pearly dew from Justin’s slit. He dabbed Justin’s lips with
his own essence. Justin’s lips glistened with his juices. His pink little tongue
darted out tasting himself. The sight made Brian harder but he controlled
himself. He wanted to make Justin feel amazing, distract him from his impending
surgery. Brian made a v with his fingers and stroked on either side of Justin’s
dick while his other fingers played with Justin’s balls.
Brian felt Justin tremble at the intense pleasure and pulled him in for a deep
kiss. He knew Justin was going to cum soon. Brian quickened his pace, stroking
Justin’s shaft just the way he liked it. His finger made forays over the slit
causing breathy gasps from Justin. Brian let his finger caress Justin’s
clenching hole. The sensations were too much for Justin and he came with a
lightning bolt of intensity. Justin’s cum drenched Brian’s hand. Justin let his
head slump against Brian’s shoulder in spent exhaustion.
“Mmm, wow, that was…”
“I know,” Brian couldn’t keep the grin from his voice.
Justin laughed. “Someone’s cocky.”
“Well I do aim to please.”
Before they tried to get some sleep Brian helped Justin to the bathroom. Justin
groaned quietly to himself at Brian having to help him.
“I cannot wait to get my sight back; you do realize how embarrassing this is,
don’t you?” Justin asked as Brian took his dick out and aimed for him.
Brian kissed Justin’s neck as the boy relieved himself.
“I play with your dick all the time. How is this different?”
“I don’t know,” Justin sighed.
When Justin finished, Brian took his turn. They crawled into the uncomfortable
hospital bed curling around each other as they usually did. Justin slept half on
top of Brian because he was more comfortable than the bed. Brian’s arms
automatically came around him protectively. He didn’t mind one bit being used as
a body pillow.
Sometime in the wee hours of the morning a night nurse came in to check on
Justin. She smiled slightly at the sight on the bed. Brian cracked an eye when
she came over to check on Justin and write down something on a chart. He
appreciated that she didn’t wake Justin up. When she left Brian allowed himself
to relax against Justin once again.
