The Only Exception (Lonely No More)
Chapter 16
Blaine had no doubt that they had once again given
the neighbors an earful. And even though Cooper hadn’t come back with them, he
was sure to give them both knowing looks when he saw them next. As Sebastian
settled into his usual position curled against his back, Blaine couldn’t bring
himself to care about either though. Not that everything had been resolved yet,
but he at least had hope that it would be.
“Nick and Jeff knew you were coming to the club, didn’t they?” Blaine asked. He
could tell that Sebastian hadn’t fallen asleep yet and he had questions and now
seemed as good a time as any to get answers.
“I wanted to make sure you didn’t leave early,” Sebastian said. He traced an
imaginary line down Blaine’s arm. “Part of me was afraid that as soon as you saw
me, you’d walk out.”
“I’d been waiting for three days for an answer,” Blaine replied. “Why would I
have left?”
“I seem to have that effect on people,” Sebastian said.
Blaine turned so that they were face to face. “Have a little more faith in us.”
“I’m working on it,” Sebastian promised.
They gazed at each other for a long moment and then Blaine scooted forward to
rest his head on Sebastian’s shoulder. “Are we going to be okay?” Blaine asked.
He wasn’t sure what sort of answer he expected.
“We’re trying,” Sebastian replied. “Aren’t we?”
Blaine could hear the doubt. They both seemed to have problems believing that
they were capable of holding on to a relationship. “We are,” Blaine said with
determination.
Sebastian gave a relieved sigh and they fell silent, just enjoying being back
together after the summer apart.
“I’m staying in LA,” Blaine said. He waited for the inevitable protest that he
was throwing away a chance others would die for.
“Good,” Sebastian replied, tightening his arms around Blaine slightly. “I hear
that winters in New York are a bitch.” He paused for a heartbeat before
continuing. “Of course, I could have racked up some major frequent flyer miles.”
It took a minute for Blaine’s brain to switch gears and register what Sebastian
meant. “You were willing to try the long-distance thing if I left?”
“Not letting the Fates get the better of us this time,” Sebastian replied. He
shrugged slightly. “Face it, Killer, you ruined me for any other man.”
Blaine smiled without looking up. “Maybe the Fates have decided that we deserve
a break.”
“I suppose I can’t argue with their timing,” Sebastian replied. “At least I’m
ready to appreciate what I have.”
A warm feeling spread through Blaine’s chest. For Sebastian, that was a major
pronouncement.
Sebastian ran a hand down Blaine’s back and rocked against him suggestively.
“How about I show you just how much I appreciate you?”
Blaine chuckled. “No objections here.”
