I Know What You Mean
“Ted and Blake are taking a boat trip down the Danube River in November - to
celebrate their seventh anniversary together,” Justin told Brian as they got
into the car – heading out to visit Gus.
“I know that,” Brian replied, “And I know that you know I know – so you must be
trying to tell me something else, I suppose. I wonder what that could be….”
“Gee whiz, Kinney,” Justin grinned at him, “You have a really suspicious mind.
And that’s kinda funny. On the other hand though, our ninth anniversary is
coming up next year….”
“So you think we should go on a boat trip down a longer river than the Danube to
celebrate our anniversary?” Brian concluded. “The Amazon maybe – or the Nile –
or even the Mississippi – old man river himself….”
“I didn’t say that, BK,” Justin was still grinning, “All I said was that Ted and
Blake are….”
”I know what you said, Kiddo,” Brian was also grinning, “And I know what you
meant too. Nine years is a long time. So I guess I should know you pretty well
by now, – and it seems like a lot more than nine years too….”
“Hey, Kinney,” Justin told him. “I could get mad at a statement like that – but
I know what you mean – so I won’t. You’re saying we’ve done so much together and
had so much fun together - so it seems like more than nine years – in some
ways….”
“Yep,” Brian agreed. “Right on, Sweetheart. You can just like – read my mind. I
guess that saves a lot of time. Maybe that’s why we got so much done in our
years together….”
“I think you’re trying to be funny, Brian,” Justin accused him.
“Nope,” Brian disagreed. “If I was really trying to be funny, you’d know I was
trying to be funny – and you just think I was trying to be funny – so it seems
to me that means …..”
“OK, Kinney,” Justin feigned exasperation. “No use trying to talk seriously to
you when you’re in this kind of a mood….”
“I’m not in ‘this kind of a mood’ at all, Baby,” Brian maintained. “If you want
to go somewhere for our anniversary we can go. Now this anniversary that we’ll
be celebrating. I know you observe a lot of anniversaries of the first time we
did this and the first time we did that. Exactly which event are we celebrating
with this trip we’re planning….”
“Cut it out, Brian Kinney,” Justin insisted. “You know darn well what event
we’ll be celebrating…..”
“Yeah,” Brian admitted, “I guess I do. So where do you want to go?”
“You know that too, Bri,” Justin said. “Don’t play dumb….”
“OK, Honey,” Brian replied, “You win – as usual. I’ll call Diane’s Travel
tomorrow and get some brochures – her being a client and all – we should book
through her. Can’t ever get started with that kind of stuff too early. But now
that that’s all decided, I wanna point out that I do know next year will only be
our eighth anniversary – you were trying to pull one with that ‘ninth’ business
– to see if I’d catch on….”
“Gee whiz, Mr. Kinney,” Justin marveled. “I didn’t think you’d remember that. I
figured ….”
“Well I’m a lot deeper and more mysterious than you think, Mr. Taylor,” Brian
told him as they pulled up in front of their destination.
Justin just smiled. He knew exactly what Brian was saying. He was saying “I love
you.”
