L is for Light
I don’t know what made me look up that night. I was on my way
home, with a short detour to take my best friend Mikey home. We were just
getting into my Jeep when…
It was the light that caught my eye. Now, that streetlight had been in that same
spot, shining down on Liberty Avenue for as long as I can remember. But
something was different about it on this night.
The light just seemed brighter. Maybe it was the way it reflected off the blond
hair and innocent face of the young man standing below it. He was trying to look
so sure of himself, like he really belonged there, but I could see the
uncertainty in his eyes…his clear blue eyes.
I made my decision quickly, before anyone else could claim him. I was the only
one who was right for him; the only one to show him the ways of the world around
him.
I strolled over to him, ignoring the calls of my friends. The light drew me like
a magnet and the closer I got, the more I knew that this wasn’t going to be any
old trick. I could feel it, but I couldn’t back away.
“How’s it going? Had a busy night?
