Scary Movies
Brian had just picked Justin up at the Institute and they were heading for a
diner dinner with Mikey and Ben. Brian was anticipating one of the subjects of
the conversation which would probably occur there.
“Mikey wants to make sure we have our usual “scary movie night” like we always
do in the Halloween season ….” he ventured.
“October 28,” Justin replied. “We should have it on October 28 ….”
“Well I think Mikey was figuring on October 29,” Brian informed him. “But maybe
….”
“October 28,” Justin repeated. “It needs to be on October 28 …..”
“I hate to ask this, Sweetheart - not wanting to seem dumb,” Brian said, “but
what the hell is so important about the 28th. 29th – 28th. What’s the
difference?”
“It’s just like you to not know what the difference is, Brian Kinney,” Justin
pointed out. “You are so lucky to have me around to explain stuff to you. It
just happens that October 28th is the ninth anniversary of our first scary movie
night ….”
“And the ninth anniversary is somehow an important anniversary or something?”
Brian wondered aloud. “Like – I could see maybe the tenth ….”
“All anniversaries are important, Bri,” Justin explained with his usual
patience. “They all connect us to our past. We are who we are because we
remember our past – or at least some of us do. You can’t have too many
anniversaries ….”
“If you say so …..” Brian grinned.
“Gee whiz, BK,” Justin told him. “You are completely devoid of sentiment. “Me
being sentimental and all, I sometimes wonder how I put up with you ….”
“Seems you’ve put up with me for about eleven years this fall, Baby,” Brian
remembered. “And you’ve been putting up with me longer than I’ve been putting up
with you …..”
“Only because I knew we were meant for each other long before you figured it
out, Kinney,” Justin laughed at him.
“Well for the movie choices for whenever scary movie night is,” Brian decided to
resume the original subject instead of continuing a losing battle. “ Mikey
thought we might show some newer horror movies this year ….”
“I think it should be the Frankenstein and Dracula from the 1930s,” Justin
countered. “If you want my opinion ….”
“We’ve seen them like – a thousand times, Taylor,” Brian protested. “Why again?”
“Because they were what we watched on our first scary movie night - nine years
ago, Brian,” Justin explained with a little less patience than earlier. “And you
know this is an anniversary ….”
“Well I didn’t know that until just a few minutes ago,” Brian reasoned. “But you
know what I’ve decided, JT. I’m appointing you our delegate to Mikey. You can
explain all this to Mikey, and you and Mikey can make all the decisions and I’ll
just watch whatever you guys decide – and whenever you guys decide ….”
“And that’s the first good idea you’ve had this afternoon, Brian,” Justin
concluded. “Mikey is a lot easier to deal with than you are ….”
Brian kept a straight face - but he was laughing on the inside. Dinner was going
to be fun.
