Favorite Things
"There are ducks on your wall." Kurt leaned closer before adding, "They're
mallards." It was his first time in Blaine's bedroom and curiosity was winning
out over propriety.
"And that is why I have so many posters," Blaine replied calmly as he rummaged
in his closet. "They were here when we moved in." He leaned out to add, "We
can't all have your interior decorating skills."
"That's why there are magazines. Wallpaper books. Paint samples..." Kurt's voice
trailed off and he swooped in on something far more disturbing than wall
mallards. "You actually read these?" He held up a thick action adventure novel
plucked from a row containing the entire series by a popular - and in Kurt's
opinion, overrated - author.
"You were with me when I bought that one," Blaine replied, brow furrowed. He had
returned from the closet with two almost identical navy blazers.
"I thought it was a gag gift for Wes." Kurt returned the book gingerly, missing
the odd look Blaine gave him.
"It's a good series. Better than those multi-generational family dramas Mercedes
reads." Blaine put on the first blazer and frowned at the look on Kurt's face.
The blazer went back on its hanger.
"Please, she only reads those for the sex scenes." Kurt looked up from his
scrutiny of the bookshelf with a conspiratorial grin. "She marks the best ones
before giving me the books."
"And you 'accidentally' leave them in Finn's room?" Blaine already knows it's
true - he's seen it happen.
"Finn needs all the help he can get." Kurt can't keep the amusement out of this
voice. "He and Rachel are entertaining to watch - occasionally and from a
distance." He frowned at the drape of the second blazer and walked over to give
it a series of tugs to settle it properly. If his fingers lingered, it was only
because he was appreciating the fine wool.
"I was thinking of you when I bought this," Blaine admitted, catching Kurt's
hands and holding them against his body. They were close enough to breathe in
each other's cologne. Close enough to lean in and...
"You have got to be kidding me." Kurt pulled back abruptly, breaking the mood
and almost sending Blaine backwards onto the bed. He brushed past the startled
boy and picked up the statuette of Sailor Moon from Blaine's desk. He clutched
the item as he turned to face Blaine. "Please tell me this was a joke..." he
trailed off, visibly paling as he caught sight of the rest of the Sailor Moon
set arranged in action poses on their own shelf.
Blaine took the statuette back and carefully returned it to its place. "It took
me forever to get the whole set."
Kurt reached out and grabbed Blaine's shoulder, pulling him in close enough that
Kurt could drop his head onto Blaine's shoulder. He closed his eyes, shutting
out visions of violent video games, cheesy horror DVDs, mediocre action novels
and - forces of the universe help him - Sailor Moon.
Well, Kurt told himself as Blaine petted him soothingly, at least Blaine's taste
in music (and boyfriends) was impeccable.
